Protests in France—which started with students but which now include many adults—center on the bad condition of the country's schools, given their role in support of France's sense of itself as a meritocracy. Why is it that schools and teachers are always poorly funded?

Well, it makes sense to force women to bring unwanted and medically risky pregnancies to term because we have robust health and social support systems ready to help the kids that will result, right? 🙄

When I was growing up, everyone watched the same programs. I mean, people leaving parties so that they could get home to watch The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Now, we're getting to the point where nobody is going to be watching anything. Maybe they'll take up reading again.

Trump has had it in for Lafayette Park since he had armed forces clear protesters so that he could have his photo op holding a Bible upside down.

A data center moratorium that takes a year is like a Supreme Court decision that construction of someone’s ballroom can continue as the cases against it wnd their ways through the lower courts.

Saw a video the other day of a robot specialized to mix drinks behind the bar. It had a scary human mannequin head (the purpose of which was to hold a camera) and a single arm that handled the glass or shaker. Just the bartender I’d want. 🙄

Only God could imagine the possibility of Trump parting with a billion dollars. To be clear: I'd vote against him under this circumstance, as well ... and give away the vast majority of the money. No one needs a billion dollars.

Stephen Colbert's ‘Lord of the Rings' Movie Paused by David Ellison After Paramount–Warner Bros. Merger — World of Reel
Bad news, Stephen. Your archnemesis has struck again. Ellison has hit pause on Colbert's LOTR movie. The film was originally rumored to begin shooting shortly after ‘The Hunt for Gollum.’

If Trump just takes money appropriated by Congress for a specific purpose & seizes it to use it for an entirely different purpose, what is the point of having a Congress or appropriating money for anything? I’m sure the Senate Appropriations Chair Susan Collins must be concerned.

I wonder if there were any guys who saw what was happening and walked away, saying, "This ain't right," because apparently there weren't any guys who saw what was happening, went to campus police and said, "I saw this, and you've got to put a stop to it right now."

Ryssdal is, of course, correct here. My question: why we aren't making a bigger stink about the fact that our government is doing everything it can to ensure that we use EVEN MORE oil everyday?

Agreed. In fact, the stock market went UP today in response to the jobs report because a slowing job market probably means the Fed will be less aggressive in raising interest rates. "Trickle down" ain't a thing.

But we can't have paid parental leave or state-supported child care because ... socialism. 🙄 And it IS worse now than it was in the '80s because of the widened gap between regular people and the very wealthy.

This performance from Kennedy shows me that (a.) he's an idiot, and more importantly that (b.) he must have been a terrible attorney because there is no logic behind these questions. He THINKS he's nailing Jack Smith to the wall, but there is no there there.
