The legislation banned coverage for transgender medical care through Medicaid and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, language that was also included in the House version of the bill passed on May 22 with a vote of 215-214.

And sorry, but this isn’t unfair. This is incredibly fair! Her sister had a clear way to guarantee admission and she didn’t pull it off! She got into another fine school anyway! This is no different than some mid Big Ten or ACC team complaining they didn’t get the 68th slot in March Madness!

Others worry the program is unfair. Vanessa Ivanov, who graduated from UW-Madison in December, has a little sister who wanted to follow in her footsteps as a Badger — but she missed the top 5% cutoff at Germantown High School by one spot. She wasn’t admitted through holistic admissions, either.

“She is very disappointed,” Ivanov said. “She ended up at UW-Milwaukee, which … is still a great school. But she looks at a lot of her classmates and the opportunities that they’re being given here at (UW-Madison), and she does not really view it as being fair or being equitable.”

Like, even if the only benefit is “high school seniors are less stressed about college admissions,” that’s still a great benefit!

“I still had to do all of the work,” said Elise Hendrickson, a Neenah High School graduate who received the guarantee and is now a sophomore at UW-Madison. “It’s just that I didn’t have to feel as stressed about like, ‘Oh, am I going to get in or not?’”

This cranberry salad recipe is maybe a bit too decadent/marshmallowy for a side but my family has always served it as a fall meal side dish

Cranberry salad recipe. 2 cups raw frozen cranberries, 3 cups small marshmallows, 3/4 cup sugar, 2 cups cubed apples, 1 cup heavy whipping cream, 1/2 cup walnuts. Place frozen cranberries in mini chopper, pulse until texture is of coarse sea salt. Combine cranberries with sugar and marshmallows. Cover container and chill overnight. When ready to prepare, whip cream to soft peaks stage. Fold cranberry slaw gradually into whipped cream. Fold in apple chunks and walnuts. Chill until ready to serve.

It deeply amuses me that the MLB schedule essentially forces all players to get married on the same weekend in November

“There’s a lot of baseball anniversaries then,” Twins manager Derek Shelton said.

Shelton told all four players to invite him to their weddings so he’s forced to buy them gifts. He also promised he won’t take any of them up on their open bars.

Why?

“We’ve already planned a Napa trip,” Shelton said with a laugh. “My anniversary is the next day.”
