Last night was only my second ever visit to Heaven, coming a whole 25 years (almost to the day!) after my first - to see The Charlatans back in 2001 😮

Tremendous show by Arab Strap at Heaven last night. Mostly new songs, which sounded immense, finished off with a reliably joyous encore of The First Big Weekend. Aidan was on fine form throughout ❤️

Might have just bought a ticket to see the High Llamas play Hawaii in full at the National Concert Hall in Dublin next year. Absolute top tier dream gig 🥰

Also loved how Theo was at Cafe Oto recently 🥰

I love it when footballers immerse themselves in the culture/music scene of the city they are living in which explains why Sean Clare and Theo Archibald are by far my two favourite Leyton Orient players (not to mention their footballing ability!). I wish Sean all the best with his music project!

I think it will be finished by 11 at the latest, if not a little earlier. I've never seen a show there go on beyond 11.

Libraries are so great. Also, I recently discovered the Libraries app where you can see in real time which libraries have copies of books you're looking for (which I then cycle to, sometimes in a different borough, in order to borrow).

This is a question I ask myself pretty much every day.

Really regretting not buying a ticket for Wendy Eisenberg at Cafe Oto in November.

Yes, great show. I was a big fan back then. Sort of lost track a bit with them after this album but enjoyed getting reacquainted last night. Would love a Vanishing Point tour!

Enjoyed listening to this! Out on Friday.

Talking of which, old gig tickets from the original tour back in 2000 (Newcastle University and Shepherds Bush Empire).

Primal Scream playing XTRMNTR in full at Outernet Live. A great show and an album that holds up pretty well over 25 years on. Dystopia, vitriol and confrontation (although Bobby Gillespie is a far more relaxed frontman these days compared to what he was when the album originally came out).

Possibly my second favourite Yo La Tengo album (which therefore means I'm allowed to own it both on vinyl and CD).

Some things I enjoyed about seeing Michael Shannon, Jason Narducy and friends playing the songs of R.E.M. at KOKO last night:

Michael Shannon, Jason Narducy and friends marking the 40th anniversary of R.E.M.'s Lifes Rich Pageant by playing it in full tonight at KOKO. This was a tremendous performance followed by a magnificent set of deep cuts and personal favourites from across most of R.E.M.'s albums.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Nu Civilisation Orchestra, Laura Mvula, James Bay, Flyte and director Peter Edwards celebrating the 40th anniversary of Graceland by Paul Simon at the Royal Albert Hall last night. A fun show (the 23:30 finish, less fun).

Caroline and My New Band Believe at the Queen Elizabeth Hall as part of Rough Trade's 50th anniversary celebrations. Two superb sets from two brilliant, genre-blurring ensembles.

I always seem to be further towards the back for gigs at the QEH so it's nice to be fairly close to the front tonight, possibly the closest I've been since sitting in the front row for Sigur Rós in 2000 😮

Guy Garvey and Jane Weaver singing Entangled by Genesis was the highlight for me (closely followed by an immense version of The Court Of The Crimson King by King Crimson featuring all vocalists) but so much to enjoy.

Yes, filmed for future broadcast. Gruff Rhys was a little shaky at times but I thought everyone else did well.

Well performed reimaginings with orchestral embellishment of songs/pieces by ELP, Jethro Tull, Genesis, King Crimson, Van Der Graaf Generator, Yes, Focus, Frank Zappa, Pink Floyd, Mike Oldfield, Soft Machine, Incredible String Band, Renaissance, Osibisa and more.

Brian Bilston & The Catenary Wires at Water Rats last night. This was a lovely little show that saw them play the indie-pop-song-poems from last year's fine Sounds Made By Humans album. We also got new song Under A Cat and some readings of Brian's poems in between songs. @brianbilston.bsky.social
