I see we are doing GRE as an equity issue again. Great, let's talk equity. Which students can afford this? Which students can afford to work in a lab for free? Which student have summers for stats classes and research institutes? Now, which students would be overlooked but for the GRE?

The ridiculous cost of an IVY league education. In this case Yale, which costs 94k for tuition, housing, and food.

Everyone knows the @eikofried.bsky.social 52 symptoms of depression wheel of symptoms. But has anyone tried to benchmark the overlap statistically? Say I have the BDI and SDS and someone else the SDS and QIDS. With enough data, could we create let's call them 'equivalence' scores across all scales?

OK, I had to check and see if there is literature and there is a little (my wife works in philanthropy so this is a hot topic around here). These tables are from Shaker et al (2016) - a case study of workplace giving at Indiana U. Not surprising longer time at a school and higher income = more give!

Journal publishers have guts, I will give them that. I spent 5-6 hours formatting an article to meet the criteria for a particular journal, it sat on the editors desk for a month and was desk rejected. Now they want me to complete a survey about it, but fear not, it will only use 10 min of my time!

Oh, I have such fond memories of the 24 hours I spent there with a group of students. Amazing food and scenery. Got a sausage from a place in a doorway in like an alley, still think about it 6 years later. Snowed like a foot overnight and woke up to a magical winter wonderland.

My wife and I also have a very longstanding disagreement along these lines. She believes her background as a graphic designer confers an advantage, I yield no ground. For example, from one of our recent discussions we have this poll. We found HUGE gender differences in the responses.
