K–12 education funded by other provinces, along with training at trade schools and universities, represents a substantial investment whose economic benefits extend well beyond provincial borders. Roughly $5 billion invested in people moving to Alberta yearly. From the rest of Canada, you’re welcome.

If Belarus had 12 million extra tonnes of potash to sell (it doesn’t), and gave it away for free (it won’t), by the time you rail it across Russia, put it on a ship, crossed the Atlantic, unloaded it and sent it by rail to Iowa farmers, it would still be far more expensive than Canadian potash.

I’m from town originally. But yeah we need generators or better UPS units keeping cell infrastructure alive longer for sure. Comms should be deemed critical infrastructure if it’s not already.

Traditional landlines have a better chance since they get low voltage electricity via copper wiring. Providers have been steadily decommissioning copper in favour of digital VOIP systems. Could work if people have their own UPS/generator in the house. Eastlink no copper. Bell Alliant maybe.

If we want to talk building up Canada, it’s not just roads and military and manufacturing. When electricity is down, we have zero communications other than land lines and radio like it’s 1988. Some equipment stays alive barely by UPS for a short period, then it’s gone. That’s not acceptable.

Power out in Pictou County. Mobile data service is similar to hurricane Fiona: useless as expected because we don’t invest in digital infrastructure. There’s zero excuse after Fiona.

Your parents and grandparents have stories you've probably never heard. Ask them one question: “What's something you know now that you wish you knew when you were younger?” Record the answer and upload it. Help us get some voices and faces into this project. www.10secondsofwisdom.org

Ask someone over 70: What lesson about life do you wish more people understood? Then listen. We’re collecting the lessons, advice and perspective that come from a life lived, and sharing them with people who might need to hear them. Ask a parent. A grandparent. A neighbour. A friend.

I built a project called 10 Seconds of Wisdom to give seniors a place to be heard, appreciated and share their perspectives. A few words of advice can mean a lot to people. I’d love to get some feedback on it. And for people to participate too of course. www.10secondsofwisdom.org #novascotia

I ran into the HRCE school supervisor while at Halifax West High School a couple years ago. Said I had a background in digital and physical security, and that HWHS was an incredibly soft target. Offered to provide info pro bono. Gave me his card and ghosted me ever since. People really don’t care.

Considering NSP doesn’t pay property tax but instead pays the province grant-in-lieu payments to distribute to municipalities, they should be using that discount and savings to find sustainable long term solutions.

The worst was explaining to my staff of six that there’s no Christmas bonus for the first time in a century. It wasn’t much, but it was expected. I can’t watch Christmas Vacation without thinking of the leadership and their dick move of not telling anyone.

I’d gladly pay 17% HST to help pull us out of the hole if we had a responsible government to spend money wisely. Cutting tax and spending like fools. That’s not the way to be proactive.

100%. Reporters probably want to protect their limited access to the Premier as is.

Agreed. Everyone could’ve calmed down a bit. The real onus is on the ones with law enforcement training. They’re supposed to be trained to do so first, not get out of the car & start pushing people. The car is a weapon. They’re probably armed too. They have to take the road to best protect peace.

It’s taken me a couple days to get my head around it. The initial reports were so one sided and language used by the NS government was just gross. If they want to talk actual local violence, they need to look at our P-12 schools and quit ignoring it. They’re aware. And they pretend it’s fixed.

Maybe the Premier, with all his apparent free time this summer, should hold engagement sessions with the public and not just business people at local Chambers of Commerce for a price. Talk to the college kids Tim. You might learn something.

Steve Pitcher @stevencpitcher.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
The statement by the Premier was one-sided nonsense. He could’ve talked to the mostly kids. He could’ve tried to be civil. In a conflict, the person with the ability to use force holds ALL the responsibility to deescalate the situation. That’s everyone inside the car.

Steve Pitcher @stevencpitcher.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
Yes, the guy climbed on top and broke the windshield. The dumbass should be charged. But the Premier and his driver/security hold the upper hand. They’re protected inside the car. The car was used to push people and was used to slowly bulldoze people. Be a leader. Show restraint. Don’t use force.

Steve Pitcher @stevencpitcher.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
Either he or his staff could’ve called law enforcement and NOT attempted to drive. RCMP detachment is less than 5-10 minutes away. Protesters would’ve been moved out of the way. Acadia University is not public property and they have the right to move. The Premier, driver and staff are wrong.

Steve Pitcher @stevencpitcher.bsky.social · 19/07/2026
Okay so I’m not a lawyer but I have a real problem with a lot of this. The car was not moving. People are standing in front of the car. The car starts to drive slowly forward into the protesters and escalates the situation. If the Premier felt endangered…

I worked at Minas Basin Pulp and Power back when they started investing in turbine tech. I don’t think anyone understood what a 20 tonne boulder of ice and mud can do to a turbine. It can be done…they just haven’t quite figured it out yet. I still have high hopes.

The other curious thing is the fact it took almost three weeks to notify employees. I understand an investigation takes time. From what I understand in Nova Scotia, public entities must initiate containment and internal reporting the day the breach is discovered. Our system needs reform.

The language and guidance is PEAK Nova Scotia education system. Telling people you can’t open up an OIPC complaint until you work with HRCE’s privacy office first. And of course call the accounting manager before you do that. But no…as a citizen you certainly CAN talk to OIPC.

The letter encourages people to contact a specific person first before opening a formal complaint. She’s an Accounting Manager as per last year’s school directory. I’ve done many IT security presentations from Los Angeles to Stockholm. “Talk to your accountant” isn’t in my breach remediation steps.

Walked Roxy tonight and was called over by three older folks sitting outside their apartment complex. They wanted to have a look at the big Bernese puppy. I’ll be making a point to stop by every night because they’re not allowed to keep dogs there. It doesn’t take much effort to make someone’s day.
