I'm so relieved that the hair conditioner at the hotel is free from homophobia! Whew! (Now if we could only say the same thing about the US Supreme Court...)

Greetings from beautiful — and wonderfully walkable — downtown Chicago, where the International Voices Project theater festival begins tomorrow night (Tuesday) at the Instituto Cervantes. One of my theater translations will have a professional staged reading as the opening night feature. 😃 🎭🍿

Since Jean Smart is in the spotlight with her record-setting Emmy win... Here's a video about that time when she played serial killer Aileen Wuornos in a 1992 TV movie (11 years before Charlize Theron in "Monster"), with Park Overall playing her girlfriend.

For years, we've seen headlines saying that Trump's approval rating has fallen to an all-time low. And no matter how often it happens, when I check the number, it's always around 35%. What higher mathematics are involved in a number staying the same while plummeting? What do the headlines refer to?

It always amazes me that these gay characters were on a UK sketch-comedy series week after week in the *1960s*. We had nothing comparable in the US. The nearest thing was Alan Sues's gay-coded characters on "Laugh-In." I have a few albums of Julian and Sandy sketches but I'd not heard this one.

The folks freaking out about "racially implausible" casting in Nolan's "The Odyssey" are probably the same people who love it when Jesus is portrayed by a pasty actor who looks like his name ought to be Sven.

📺 July 13, 1984: “Brothers” debuted on Showtime. Pay cable’s first original sitcom starred Paul Regina as a man who left his bride at the altar on their wedding day, only to reveal to his 2 older brothers (Robert Walden and Brandon Maggart) that he's gay. 115 episodes were produced over 5 seasons.

New video: "CBS News 'Does' the Gays." It's the story behind two biased early CBS documentaries about gay men: THE HOMOSEXUALS (1967) and GAY POWER, GAY POLITICS (1980), and how they ended up being as biased as they were. Made 13 years apart, they reflect vastly different eras for queer people.

June Lockhart seems to have been such a lovely person, and here she replies beautifully to Graham's antigay remarks. What has surprised me since I posted this video is how many people in the comments assume that Rev. Troy Perry is heterosexual and a Catholic priest. No idea why they assume that!

Was just in two shops where the twentysomething-year-old workers were completely unfamiliar with the terms "humidifier" and "vaporizer." Are these no longer a common thing? Or are they now called something fanciful like a "steam-o-breather"?

I love good queer romance films, and this week I really enjoyed a very sweet gay-teen romance I saw for the first time: the Brazilian film "The Way He Looks" (2014). Very well made (though I have doubts about the plausibility of the final scene).

My fellow cis folks, The FCC is asking Americans to submit comments about whether the TV Oversight Management Board (TVOMB) should create new TV ratings to alert viewers to trans/gender content. Time to be an ally and tell the FCC absolutely the fuck not. It takes five minutes to do.

"Luddite" doesn't mean "fuddy-duddy who can't grasp tech and dislikes anything new." Luddites were workers-rights activists who, when industries developed machines to replace workers, broke in at night and smashed the machines. UK then made machine-smashing a capital crime and started killing them.

I hate the insinuation that a corporation not celebrating Pride implies bigotry. It feels awfully close to "If you refuse to celebrate Christmas, you just hate Christians." There are plenty of companies whose owners and leaders actively wish us harm. Surely those should be our priority.

June is designated #PrideMonth in countries around the world, marking the anniversary of the Stonewall riots in June 1969. Pride celebrates the progress we have made over the last 57 years but it also reminds us that the struggle is not over. Far from it.

If you're rounding up people who "look Hispanic," what you really mean is they look like indigenous peoples of the Americas. This is white leaders ordering the roundup and imprisonment of indigenous Americans, to punish them for being on the wrong side of lines that white people drew on the ground.

Over her figure is a handwritten quote in white text that reads: “The wicked become even worse when they are tolerated.” – Tolstoy. The intense backdrop and the child's silhouette create a haunting, powerful visual emphasizing the quote's message about the dangers of complacency toward evil.

Marriage equality seems to be the only issue Andrew Sullivan ever seriously cared about. In the 1990s, he kept urging us to abandon the pursuit of employment nondiscrimination and instead focus activism entirely on attaining marriage rights, which helps far fewer of us. I never had much use for him.
