I need a Heartbreakers / Thelma and Louise style road trip movie with Joan Cusack and Drew Barrymore playing sisters travelling across America. I don't know where they're going or why. That's for Hollywood to decide.

Spent the weekend camping in the Peak District and ended with a trip to Castleton today and a journey into The Devil's Arse, aka Peak Cavern, that served as a tourist attraction for Victorians (incl Byron, Conan-Doyle, and Queen Victoria) who were placed in a coffin and ferried in by Charon.

Happy Birthday to #WilliamMorris, born #otd 1834. Here he is, drawn by his friend Burne-Jones, enjoying a night out. I am so fortunate to study & share his work. Morris was more than a poet, activist, designer, calligrapher, translator - he was also generous & hopeful. We can all learn from him.

#OTD in 1852, Harriet Beecher Stowe's 𝘜𝘯𝘤𝘭𝘦 𝘛𝘰𝘮'𝘴 𝘊𝘢𝘣𝘪𝘯 was first published. Best-selling novel of the 19th century, it remains a landmark in American literature for its role in shifting public opinion against slavery & accelerating the path to the Civil War. #WomensHistoryMonth #litsky #booksky
A side-by-side historical composite image featuring Harriet Beecher Stowe and the title page of her influential 1852 novel Uncle Tom's Cabin.

Left side: Black-and-white portrait of Harriet Beecher Stowe (1811–1896), the American abolitionist writer, shown as an elderly woman seated in three-quarter view. She has curly, graying hair with a center part, a calm and dignified expression gazing directly at the camera, and wears a dark shawl over a lighter garment with a white lace collar or fichu.

Right side: The original 1852 title page from the first edition (or early printing) of Uncle Tom's Cabin; or, Life Among the Lowly by Harriet Beecher Stowe. The aged, sepia-toned page displays elegant typography with the full title in large uppercase letters, the subtitle "LIFE AMONG THE LOWLY," and authorship "BY HARRIET BEECHER STOWE." A small wood-engraved illustration depicts enslaved people gathered inside a humble cabin under a thatched roof, with figures in emotional interaction. Publisher information reads: "VOL. I. ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTH THOUSAND. BOSTON: JOHN P. JEWETT & COMPANY. CLEVELAND, OHIO: JEWETT, PROCTOR & WORTHINGTON. 1852." The page shows natural aging, including slight discoloration.

This pairing highlights Stowe's role as a pioneering female author whose bestselling novel galvanized anti-slavery sentiment in the United States and contributed significantly to the abolitionist cause.

Finally bought a copy of Rob Nixon's 'Slow Violence and the Environmentalism of the Poor' after four years of taking it out of the library. I've found elements to be a strong transferable foundation for much of my writing that centres on Victorian industrialisation and the working classes.

I don't subscribe to the Telegraph so can't read the article, but this is awful on so many levels. Students need human connection, care, and empathy. They need an adult who understands their needs. Also. How will the poorest students access these tutors?
