I asked her about her tattooed-on eyebrows. She explained that she had it done because, "as you know I'm Lebanese." Well I'm 79 years old and I certainly did not know what that had to do with the price of bananas. So I like the body part about eyebrows. #Djabbarova26 #mycapdreadfulbody #LisaCHayden

#Booksky #SundaySentance "For Hitler, strength was a matter of violence - one man's ability to exercise violence over another" Stalingrad - Vasily Grossman.
Test from Part 3, Chapter 31 of Stalingrad by Vasily Grossman, Transtalted by Robert Chandler and Elizabeth Chandler. The image is the cover, showing the title and author and translators and a German soldier walking ahead of a tank in snow. In the full cover the flag can be seen on the tank.

I am reading #ForbiddenNotebook. I have a friend who comes from a very traditional Italian family and puts up with a lot. She talks a lot about herself and members of her extended family who chafe under their roles. What about gifting this book?

They are Turks who were settled there after the battle of Kossovo, who have remained what the Ataturk would not permit Turks to be any longer. They are what a people must become if it suspends all intellectual life and concentrates on the idea of conquest. #Blacklambandgreyfalcon #RebeccaWest

“Morgenstern said he’d been wise to #KarlKraus’s character ever since reading Die Fackel and learning that he sided with the antisemites in the Dreyfus Affair. ‘What?!’ Roth yelled, turning to Zweig, ‘is this supposed to be true?’” #Endless Flight: The Life of Joseph Roth by Keiron Pim a.co/3KHkC6B

I thought this would be a good companion Kieran Pim’s Joseph Biography. So much of Roth’s life concerned Europe in the lead up to World War II www.goodreads.com/book/show/36...

I’ve been thinking about the power of narrative…Pick a few facts, string them together into a story. The power of the facts increase 100 fold. You have something that hooks into your life experience — something you can remember. When did the news start adding narrative to “just the facts?”

“Ask a historian: what is man’s greatest invention? Fire? The wheel? The sword? I would argue it’s history itself. History isn’t fact. Its narrative; one carefully curated and shaped. Under the pencil strokes of the right scribe, a villain becomes a hero, a lie, becomes the truth.” Isaac Asimov
