Went to my local Georgian restaurant for a cooking class on how to make adjari khachapuri. Turned out well! Then we ate them, with a glass of Saperavi wine. So much cheese, so much.

Farewell to Wendell Berry at 92, an absolute giant of writing.

What an amazing quote to be remembered for: "be strong enough to be gentle". Reminds me of this from the Manga "Vagabond".

Um, Bsky? You should really stop using AI at all, but especially for your trending topics which clearly aren't ready. I very much doubt that today's topic is that he becomes Mayor, since it happened 8 months ago.

FFS Burnham. If the national alert isn't for something that's happening live, just an announcement, you TELL people it's coming. That way they're not surprised while driving, and if they're in danger in their home and have a 2nd phone it isn't exposed. You don't use it for "No BBQs", jfc

I know Bsky is all-in on AI and algorithms, but the voting just opened and doesn't end until 10pm tonight. Just because most posts say "Farage is expected to win big" doesn't mean it's happened. Sort your topics out, Bsky. (Also if he does win he goes straight back to being investigated, heh)

Great, so say you're nationalising it, you useless lump. "Hmm, something needs to change but no promises" is how we got in this mess.

Ah, incredible fantasy artist John Blanche has passed. His art was instantly recognisable: chaotic, wild and epic, a real part of my 80s childhood.

Relatedly, "The Optician of Lampedusa" is a beautiful book about rescuing migrants. I've been in a monthly book club for 10 years and it's in our Top 3.

Went to the Prince Charles Cinema to see Wong Kar-Wai's classic romance "In the mood for love". It was *packed*, not a spare seat. Movies are great. (Next week, for a change of pace, AKIRA).
The two protagonists from In the Mood for Love, stylishly lit in the back of a taxi.

Yesss! This two-screen cinema in the centre of London UK is also no stranger to Bogart, and is therefore simply better than the big ones:

There was a time (just after 2000) when the comic-a-day Dilbert desk calendar got me through office working. And then 10+ years ago Scott Adams went full MAGA bigot crazy, and fell for all the lying capitalist soulless conmen he'd spent decades writing as the bad guys. What a disappointment.

Extraordinary fact-checking disclaimer in this sponsored Youtube advert. Presumably it's a legal requirement to add it? Hilarious. It's most of the ad.
A youtube advert for investing, which states in large writing that "76% of retail accounts lose money with this provider." Wow.

Went on a "food holiday" and spent travel money on restaurants I'd never been to instead. Ate Shakshuka and Macedonian burek and fancy steak and Czech goulash and Devon crab and allegedly the 5th best pizza in the world. Can recommend doing a food holiday.

Yes to Pelham 123! And much as I detest 75% of IW / Endgame, this is one of the most satisfying final shots to a movie and a series in a very long time.

My dude. Everyone in the world knows that Trump doesn't have ANY empathy, because he's a narcissist. Every broadcast since 2016, every article, interview and decision has shown he's *incapable of empathy*. HOW do you get paid for claiming the one thing everyone knows cannot be the tiniest bit true?

The single most cyberpunk post on the internet: The guy at the top is Mike Pondsmith who wrote the Cyberpunk RPG (that the "Cyberpunk 2077" game comes from) quoting Burning Chrome by the peerless William Gibson, and the original post is by Richard Kadrey who wrote Metrophage...
