Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 03/10/2026This was life changing for me. I hope you and your family experience all the same joys we have and more. They’re seriously fun machines 010
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 03/10/2026What a simple yet deeply special thing to share with someone. I would be so grateful for someone spending that time with me. 010
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 03/10/2026Ha, this was my inspiration! I didn’t live there, but I once read about the crazy ways women were lured to places like that (you get a cabin, land, there are men!), and the men trying trying to essentially mail-order homesteading brides. As I recall it generally went terribly! 110
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 03/10/2026I don’t know how good are you at swingin hammer? Can you push a fully loaded wheelbarrow up a steep incline? Y’ever forded a river? 100
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 02/10/2026I wish I could get away with that. They’re so fucking cute, but I’m not, so people get pretty worked up about it. So I have to do something like this instead. Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 02/10/2026To be left with good memories when someone passes is truly the loveliest parting gift 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 02/10/2026I’ve been mainlining the betas for quite a while and I have to say, in an age of slop, this is Really Good Software and so refreshing to useeffect.websiteEffect 4.0 | Effect BlogRebuilt from the ground up, with a dependency-free core and long-term support 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 02/10/2026FUCK CARNEY BRO HE’S BETTER THAN TRUDEAU BUT DOESN’T DO EVERYTHING I THINK HE SHOULD AND BY THE WAY I WOULD UTTERLY DISINTEGRATE IN HIS ROLE AND CRASH THE COUNTRY INTO A QUAGMIRE OF SUFFERING 120
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 01/10/2026I think about this stuff a lotderekthompson.orgYou Are No Longer Invited to DinnerWe’re witnessing the death of hosting in America. The share of adults who say they regularly have friends over has declined 70 percent since 1975 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 01/10/2026We should have skipped them and just plugged the spine right into the knees IMHO 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 30/09/2026Wow. That is so disgusting. What a vile person. I’m sorry that happened to you 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 30/09/2026“Work is just work now” I feel that I also know many others do and I worry it means a substantial number of people who made the web fresh, exciting, and innovative are essentially gone, and they won’t be replaced I hope I’m wrong 110
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 30/09/2026But I can’t watch Up or read Love You Forever to my kids without crying 040
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 30/09/2026I’m a 40 year old dude (not even a little pregnant) and it made me pretty misty eyed 160
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 30/09/2026So radiant! The sweater provides a sophisticated underpinning of artistic and feral themes 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 30/09/2026When I see Tiny attached to something I look somewhere else. Aeropress is effectively dead to me 011

Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 29/09/2026www.derekthompson.org/p/the-death-... Interesting stuff! It surprised me to see that the average child care done by dads is still only at ~70 minutes per day for millennials. That's what, taking kids to school and making breakfast? That leaves a ton on mom's plate.derekthompson.orgYou Are No Longer Invited to DinnerWe’re witnessing the death of hosting in America. Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 29/09/2026Also are they paying attention? Heaps of boomers are still working. If only younger generations weren't brain damaged by COVID, they would be able to see the whole picture more clearly. Alas, my generation remains the best and smartest and most virtuous one. It's a lot of responsibility 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 29/09/2026When I see people with these problems (and I don't love paying $16k in property taxes either, but) I worry that many of us are not at all prepared for the hardship ahead of Canada. If you don't know how lucky you are already, you're not going to go gracefully into what seems to be in store 110
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026I ask myself this so often, haha. Thanks for making me feel less alone in my oddness 010
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026Hmmm I can be like this in most cases and definitely share the trait of deep diving, but occasionally I will hit a subject that swiftly takes over my life and reason goes out the window. It’s strange, because I’m aware of the issue yet I seem to miss it as it happens 000
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026For me most recently it was free diving. All I could think about was being in the water, drifting in the waves, watching the sea like, breathing, soaking in the quiet. I’m still obsessed with it, but I more or less don’t let myself do it or I’ll want to do it too much. The drive is intense 120
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026Not to play hopeless victim. I’m just acknowledging a challenge associated with that approach. I’ll have to figure it out eventually 111
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026I used to do this but found it difficult not to get too into the sport. It was so hard to manage my passion for the activity I was into with work, family, socializing, etc… My wife really hates when I’m into something because it becomes such a singular focus. I haven’t found a solution yet 120
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026Oh my god I just discovered it the R is for replicating, not resolving. Joke demolished 120
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026Many couples need conflict resolution at one point or another, it’s perfectly normal 110
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026Wishing you and the little one positive outcomes. It's so hard to see your kids upset with no way to help them. 010
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026Thinking AI can get you there would be a very insidious and surprising way to race to failure. I feel like that’s exactly what a lot of people are doing right now, though 010
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026I find myself thinking a lot more about what our real barriers are, and very few are helped by AI. It’s about real relationships, demonstrating the organization’s capabilities and strengths to the right people, solving problems uniquely well, maintaining a laser focus, and much more 140
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026It’s similar in sciences. While science software tends to be rough on the edges (unless it’s a highly polished open source staple), it was never a bottleneck. My org can do so more with software now, but it’s not a path to more funding. Real problems are much more difficult than what AI solves for 140
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026The rest, yeah, roll with the punches. Sensible compromise is an art form 110
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 28/09/2026The one thing I regret not standing my ground on is phones. My 17 year old became much less curious about the world when every moment of boredom could be soothed with a phone. The other kids don’t have one and won’t any time soon (he’s between two homes so I can’t set the rules 100% of the time) 110
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 27/09/2026It also compiles about as quickly as I prepare my taxes (excruciatingly slowly) 010
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 27/09/2026Oh wait. What? That’s scary. Especially if you have anxiety. Dosing stimulants too high without knowing it is a recipe for misery, not medication. 0120
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 27/09/2026It's also a very neurotypical thing to say. Wouldn't it be better if we just kept pretending, and you uh, stopped having a problem? Doesn't that sound convenient? 030
Steve Adams @steve-adams.me · 27/09/2026Someone once said something like "I feel like your diagnosis made you worse" which was such a trip to consider. I mean, I get it — the diagnosis puts attention on the condition, making it all more salient and sometimes in undesirable ways. But god damn, that's not how this works at all. 240
