Now that Paxwood Book 1 is complete, I'm putting together an epub and whole audiobook. It's unedited from the podcast, so it has all the rough around the edges charm. I'll probably only sell these on etsy and ko-fi. Some day, I'd love to do a dev edit, line edit, get it a pretty print edition, tho.

Happy gotcha day, Lilly! Will you give Lilly a belly rub for her gotcha day? After I adopted her from the rescue, it quickly became clear that she makes space for herself because she came from an unsafe situation, but all she wants is to put more love into the world. Love my chaos gremlin girl 🐾

Pride on 4TheWords is one of my favorite annual 4TW events, and this year, it's *punk.* I will write surrounded by rainbows. I will write remembering the first Pride was a riot. I will write inclusively because all my LGBTQIA+ friends deserve a world that embraces and uplifts their existence.

Could really just use a nice nap right now. Like, almost tempted by a Rip Van Winkle sized nap, as long as the world on the other side of the twenty year nap isn't a dumpster fire.

Outline. Put outline into Aeon Timeline. Sync Aeon Timeline with Scrivener. As I write things out, I add more details to the timeline and adjust what needs adjusting. I also have Obsidian as a digital notebook. It has fun wiki-esque linking features. Love it.

I'm working on a reimagining of my first crochet dragon, a rainbow dragon named Pryde. I tried a few gradient rainbow yarns but decided to color change by hand. Straight lines felt too unnatural, so I added some staggered stitches. Honoring the original heart panel wings, I'm emphasizing the heart.

If you enjoyed A Ring of Secrets and you're wondering about the sequel, the first draft of book 2 is officially at 25% complete. Which means very little in terms of a release schedule. But, have an out of context line: "It's not a taxidermized Janides III squirrel-bee, is it?" #YASciFi #IndieAuthor

With Episode 36 of Paxwood up, that means three more episodes and the epilogue remain in Book 1. Are you curious about Book 2 yet? Any guesses whose story Kerry will tell next?

I built a super fancy spreadsheet to break stories down into the Save the Cat Beats. I put in my overall vision for the number of words in a book, it tells me how many words should fit into each section of the plot, give or take. I added a side box to set a deadline and give me a words per day goal.

Okay. Honorable mention favorite character for Jylisa and her amazing hacker fAIry Eitwon. I mean, all she wants is to propose to the love of her life, daughter of the ship's engineer, pilot of the Light Echo, a vicious pirate vessel. She's got no heritage, no wealth to her name.

Shy? Shy is absolutely my favorite character in A Ring of Secrets. When they send text messages, there is no capitalization and no punctuation. Who has time for that when the message is perfectly clear without it?

Songbird doesn't get a lot of screen time in A Ring of Secrets, but she's still my favorites. Along with Kip, she was one of the first two characters in the story to actually exist, helping me understand the whole universe that these characters are operating in.

100

Steph 🧶📚 @stephweavestales.com · 21/04/2025

Kip is completely my favorite character in A Ring of Secrets. He was actually the first character to exist in my mind for this corner of the universe. I started a short story about how he and Songbird met, and it sort of spiraled outward from there. First, the crew of the Rhemora. Then the rest.

Valta might be a bit of a dark horse, but she's still my favorite character in A Ring of Secrets. She calls BS on this whole situation. She's got the highest-quality brand new technology in her prosthetic cybernetic arm and eye.

100

Steph 🧶📚 @stephweavestales.com · 19/04/2025

Shen's easily my favorite character in A Ring of Secrets. She comes into the novel with one desperate attempt to hold on to something precious to her by passing it off to a stranger. The chances that this would even work are so, so slim. But she's a very "Never tell me the odds" sort of a person.

100

Steph 🧶📚 @stephweavestales.com · 18/04/2025

Oh, but, of course Lira is my favorite character in A Ring of Secrets. She's the writer, the dreamer, the creative spirit. Her friends think of her as being vector-straight, or in other words, a person whose moral convictions are clear and guide her in a forthright direction.

100

Steph 🧶📚 @stephweavestales.com · 17/04/2025

Ixi is absolutely 110% my most favorite character of A Ring of Secrets. Omigosh. Give me a sassy robot. Give me all your sassy robots who don't realize they're being sassy because they're just not human, so they don't even realize it when they're sassing.

Steph 🧶📚 @stephweavestales.com · 16/04/2025

Quzen, Quzen, Quzen. Okay, Quzen is definitely my favorite character in A Ring of Sectets because what you see is what you get. He's not a natural academic, but he understands grit. It might take him twice as long to study for that test. It might take him a minute to find the strategy that clicks.

Steph 🧶📚 @stephweavestales.com · 15/04/2025

Let me tell you why Nix is absolutely my favorite character in A Ring of Secrets. I love that Nix is a maker and a doer, although it can be one of her more troublesome characteristics in the wrong situations. She doesn't like sitting still. If there's a problem, she wants to solve it.

Growing up, I didn't read a single #asexual (or aro) character in fiction. I felt permanently ignored. So both main characters in my epic YA Fantasy are aro-ace (one's also heir to the throne 😉), & platonic friendship is at its heart 💜🖤 🌈📚 elisecarlson.com/ruarnon-tril... #InternationalAsexualDay
