Today the namesake of my oldest daughter would have been 100. Ella Mae Sutherland was a force well into her 80s. She lived through the depression, the death of her husband, the death of her daughter, & she raised my amazing wife. Amid an unsettled week, I'm thinking of her strength.

In the mail today … Perhaps an important step, but also a reminder of the steps we could have taken years ago when the opioid crisis was driven by prescription opioids - today it is not. Illicitly produced fentanyl is. Treatment for opioid use disorder remains out of reach for too many.

4/When kids are off for the summer, they lose one of their most common sources of nutrition - schools. Most voters also support candidates who support national funding for summer nutrition programs for schools.

3/We polled US registered voters a few months ago, and 65.6% would support national candidates who support universal free meals in schools. Schools are a common source of food for kids. You can't learn if your are hungry.

2/Food insecurity is common. About 1 in 5 kids in some surveys. In some states, like Tennessee, we found it's closer to 2 in 5 kids. Many parents have made changes to food purchases or skipped meals due to food prices. (Georgia poll coming in 2025)
