I have been reading the Financial Times lately, which, though personally expensive, is worth it for me as a sociologist. It is MUCH more informative than even a cursory read of something like NYT even as a dissident. Reason is because the capitalist class spells out their thinking clearly.

Again, is still being set up :) But yes, she is quite active. Please, please give the book a shoutout wherever you can! It turns out to be one of the best books yet written and too few people know this.

I don't use BlueSky that often, it seems like more people are, though. So let me just say that I recommend the movie "The Dead Don't Hurt."

A lot of the Trump voterbase should be understood as a consequence of having class-based suffering and maladies without a strong enough left that can provide class-consciousness and collective political logic as a pathway to overcoming those maladies.

Palestinians are being killed by a colonial apartheid state, and we're here to make our stance clear and simple: If you're a Zionist, antisemitic, Islamophobic, or pro-genocide, we will block you. We stand for the liberation of the Palestinian people.

I like the recent Chris Hedges interview - juxtaposing "corporate elite" against "oligarchic elite," which explains why the debate had Kamala praising Goldman Sachs and all the Wallstreet canon, and Trump posing somehow as an opposite of these things. Neoliberalism vs Authoritarian Capitalism.

I thought for a while that if you modified an LLM with the ability to learn some of Chomsky's rulesets that it could go somewhere. That might have some utility for translation/translating technologies overall, but Chomsky's theories are proven right when it comes to LLMs (esp poverty of stimulus).

Study what you find interesting, because none of us are guaranteed a future anyway. And if you think the humanities and history do not matter, think about all the people invested in trying to stop you from studying them, and ask why.

I put together a new starter pack of people who do work on the history of socialism. Encompasses different aspects, tendencies, and eras, including recent years. Let me know if you have suggestions or would like to be added yourself.

So when we say that BlueSky actually has the prospects to "replace" Twitter, what are we saying? (I was never a Twitter user really, but of course anything ruled by plutocrats is not good).

@court-fost.bsky.social Hey thanks for nagging me to join this thing. I actually never did do Twitter but this is actually not too bad of a place and so far does not seem to me to be too restrictive of an enclosure.
