The worst call in this game was: "Most games come down to the fourth quarter and who can make the plays." That is just how linear time and games work.

The secret to watching NFL games is to DVR them, then skip ahead 2:30 to miss every commercial and 14 minutes to miss halftime.

I was at the National Zoo when a squirrel got in the red panda enclosure and the chase was on! Viewers immediately dived into the Team Panda and Team Squirrel as the squirrel tried to get out. It was a near thing.

My job is developing ghosted books. Ghosts are rarely secret anymore, and if a ghost isn't listed as co-author (something ghosts don't always want) you can likely find them in the acknowledgments. Also why wouldn't people who can't write hire ghosts? I bet they hire plumbers and carpenters too.

This is the most remarkable story Ray Bradbury ever shared with me. He told it to me late one night, sitting in his den of antiquities and mementos. Take five minutes to read this. It’s pure magic. #Writing #Living #Creativity #RayBradbury #BookSky

Re Rule 4, fortunately this rule didn't apply to the Bugs Bunny cartoon in which Wile says, "Wile Coyote, Supra Genius. I like the way that sounds. WY-LEE KI-YO-TAY, Suuuuupra Genius." [Train horn sounds...] I think about this once a month.

I ask because I started at Tom Dunne Books right after it came out and brought a copy home for my daughter. Were I still there--and if it still existed--we'd have totally considered your new book for the US market. Good luck with it. It sounds very interesting.

Just played the board game version of Password from 1968. I was wearing cargo shorts, sneakers and a golf shirt. The couples playing on the game's wore jackets and ties, dresses and pearls.

If you haven't read it, you'd love Zola's THE LADIES' PARADISE about, essentially, Bon Marche. The guy who runs it first arranges the store logically like this article suggests, but then he mixes everything up so shoppers have to roam the whole store to find what they want--and hopefully find more.

My father was a lawyer in the city. One day in probably the '70s, a client paid his bill with a beautiful shotgun. My father didn't need it, so he walked over to A&F--remember: he's carrying a shotgun through Midtown at lunch--and they bought it from him. I don't think they would today.

so my spouse is part of a weirdly intense but mostly benign men's workout group that meets at like, 5:30am outside every day, even in winter. they do a lot of burpees and lugging cinder blocks up hills and stuff.
they take turns leading the workouts and tomorrow is his turn. I asked what he was planning. he handed me a sheet of William Carlos William poems from a large stack he'd printed.
I said "what" and he explained, helpfully, "it's a William Carlos William themed workout." I asked what inspired it and he said "l've been planning this for months."

it was a smash hit.
a dozen guys showed up (more than usual). spouse brought a red wheelbarrow and they took turns bringing cinder blocks up the hill with it. then they broke up in teams and did a relay with an "icebox" (cooler filled with 40lbs of ice). at the end he opened the cooler to reveal it was full of beach plum lacroix and all the guys cheered. they drank sparkling water as he read 'approach of winter' out loud.
he was home by 6:30am.
