Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 08/10/2026Quite. Socialism has a definition. Just look at a dictionary or a sixth form political science textbook book. What Vance decides it means is both irrelevant and (judging by his response) incorrect. 030 0

Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I always think this play is one of the most current and relevant plays Shakespeare wrote. It is a shame that it so often seems to be sidelined as an ‘early play’. I enjoy introducing it to my sixth form students in extension sessions. How wonderful would it be to have it on the curriculum! 110 0

Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 07/10/2026I love this play! I feel it is a great companion piece to Julius Caesar - the later is about the triumph of rhetoric, Titus is about the death of rhetoric. Lavinia’s ‘wooden tongue’ Is a brilliant metaphor for how ineffectual speech is in this play. 130 0

Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 01/10/2026this misery, hurt, violence and death with this abomination is indicative of a sick society. No-one gets true justice, everyone is left poorer and sullied because of it. It is just so very sad for everyone involved. My heart weeps. 021 0
Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 01/10/2026What happened to Christa Pike as a child in terms of abuse was horrific. The crime she committed was horrific, and I feel desperately sorry for Colleen Slemmer and her family. The abuse Pike suffered does not excuse her actions, but surely mitigates them. Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Agree - not only is it offensive and tacky, I just think it is trying to appeal to a different culture of Christian Nationalism which has yet to gain mainstream attraction in the UK (and which I think will never do so, largely because it is so very very weird!) 020 0
Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 27/09/2026Ok. Enough. The first three films changed the face of cinema. The next three were flawed but largely aimed to advance to mythos and story. Now Star Wars is just being used to milk money - there is no love for the fans, desire for creativity. It is production of goods for production’s sake. Just stop 1100 0

Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 25/09/2026Especially as this story is meant to take place before the events of The Lion etc, which is set in WW2. It seems a bad choice. I am not convinced by what I have heard and seen about this film this far. 110 0

Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Nationality, and culture is incredibly complex, as is the what constitutes a nation or country. For example the United Kingdom’s borders as we know them today is only just over 100 yrs old. And Northern Ireland is a pertinent example of all the complexities of ‘nationality’. Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Sorry - probably did not express myself well. I mean the idea of a homogenous ‘pure’ ideal of English culture. I am pretty sure such a thing does not exist. Cultures have been cross pollinating since forever. I am not sure any one body (and CERTAINLY not political parties) should be determining 110 0
Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Alas, did not see it in the theatre! Agree that Macbeth needs to be fast and no intervals to let up the tension. Of all of Shakespeare’s plays, I think it is one of the most difficult to cut - not a word or thought wasted. The writing is as so sharp and taught. 010 0
Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 23/09/2026If we are a mixture of Celtic, Germanic, French and Scandinavian cultures in our medieval past, why can we not embrace African, Asian, Middle Eastern, Anerican (and other) cultures now. The idea of Englishness is in many ways absurd. 171 0

Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 23/09/2026The literature of the medieval period is saturated in colour. I have been teaching Arrmitage’s modernisation of Gawain and the Green Knight, and the opening description of Camelot is a multi-colour extravaganza. 121 0
Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 23/09/2026Every time I hear about someone making a film set in medieval times, I just want to point the director, producer and anyone who will pay attention towards a Breughel painting and say ‘That is what the medieval works looked like!’ Notice the fact that not everything is grey, black or covered in crap! 131 0

Anyone who traduces them doesn’t really respect ideals of respect, compassion, sacrifice and selflessness (ideals that the goons in charge of Reform and Respect simply do not get!) 0122 0
Stephen Hancock @stephenhancock.bsky.social · 18/09/2026Those who serve the RNLI are the very very best of us. They go to sea to save the lives of all those who need them, regardless of creed, religion, nationality, race, or background.
