Man, these Off the Reservation air-fresheners from @thatnerdchick.bsky.social smell EXACTLY like suntan lotion! It’s the scent I always try to get. So cool.

Tokens well, or at least Off the Reservationy, to be following THIS of all RVs home from a book event. Does that tape mean it’s about to get a parade modification? I can hope …
A 21’ RV from behind. It’s got blue tape framing the big rear window.

hm. got, you know . . . SUSPICIONS I might not agree with this? but, it's in/an "Opinion"; conversation's what it's supposed to start. I do appreciate using writing to say how writing isn't important, of course—hopefully the article has fun with that as well. Soon to read, here.
an article from the NYT titled "Opinion: I'm a College Professor. Writing Isn't As Important as We Think."

Reading now, right this moment (okay: before and after it). That second-person opening BRINGS out. Brian’s always a sure-thing writer.
Cover for the novel Van Death, by Brian Asman. Red. There’s a van. District sense of menace.

I don’t have the photo know-how to capture the shininess of the skull—foil, gloss? Don’t know the terms. But? The teeth have contour, somehow. And the orange on the edge and sides is beautiful. Can’t wait for y’all to see it, hold it.
Cloth/hardcover Off the Reservation: the title in mouth of a deer skull. Sprayed-orange page edges. Very cool looking book.

When the power dropped the other night, I went to the electricity people’s site to report it, and . . . this seems sort of like they don’t want to hear about ridiculousness like this?

Cool new books. Somehow never read Piegan—friend I trust recommended it. So excited for the Asman. He’s a sure-thing writer. And, just the TOC of @joeytainment.bsky.social ‘s book is already hilarious. Can’t wait to dive in.
Three books staged on a little circular rug that’s supposed to look like a manhole cover for Denver. The books are Van Death, Piegan, and We’ve Been Here the Whole Time. And, if it matters, the photographer here nearly went absolutely insane trying to snap a pic without glare. This photographer doesn’t understand glare. But, like the wind, he now hates it forevermore. Times two. This may be the end of taking photos. Way too much trouble.

This Killer on the Road from @sstpublications.bsky.social is gorgeous. Also, I just got the wide version of that cover, much larger, back from the framer. One of the very coolest covers I’ve lucked into. Thanks, Francois Vaillancourt. Also? Killer was the most fun to write of any of my novels.
Book jacket: a big rig/tractor from a low angle, such that we can see “Stephen Graham Jones” on the tall bumper. “Killer on the Road” is on the side of the hood. Truck’s dingy red, has seen some miles.

So wild that just seeing Marlena on Strange New Worlds instantly conjures Bo and Hope and Stefano and Victor and Roman and Abe and even John Black (whom I always hated). Had no idea this was all still in my head. And heart. Man.

Really digging The Yeti. But it’s hilarious that the one cowboy hat in it’s shaped to fit today, not 1947 (in The Yeti’s defense, almost all the westerns update the hats, too—I never understand it).
Cowboy hat styles through some old decadesA cowboy standing by a horse in an old stock kind of photo. Probably a promotional photo. Is that Marshall Dillon? It’s too small, and I don’t have my glasses on. Some lantern-jawed cowboy hero, anyway. In color. Maybe in technicolor, even.

I don’t have the ability to see through this font to what band this is, but, man, do I dig the cover: bison horns on a space helmet? For sure. Always. Anyway, it was on the way out at the thrift store. But now it’s got a new home. Excited to spin it. Says something about the Ghost Dance inside.
A record sleeve. The art is a Native dude with a glass space helmet that’s got bison horns fixed to it.

new Very Favorite Book: first edition of Long Lance, by this dude who just DECIDED to be Blackfoot, and wrote a book about coming up that way.
