Quite possible that Australia's Dickson has pulled the same thing Canada's Carleton did earlier this week: defeating an opposition leader in their own seat. #auspol #cdnpoli

And some wags in the comments are getting in on it.
Comment: Surely there is a Canadian Island in the middle of nowhere inhabited by penguins that we can slap a 10% tariff on!Comment: I'm a Canadian by birth but I have been in Australia since 1971 and I still hate that axle grease stuff you Aussies love! I also have Australian citizenship but Elbows Up!Comment: This calls for a protest and the mass dumping of Maple Syrup into the harbour at Circular Quay

Before CN Tower stair climb/after CN Tower climb. Observation deck was surrounded by cloud when I arrived, but it didn't matter. Big proponent of escalators and lifts now.

Luv 2 get crypto scams pretending to be CBC posted as ads on my Facebook feed, months after the CBC told Meta this was an issue www.cbc.ca/news/canada/...
An ad on Facebook from a page called "Canada Votes," claiming to link to a CBC article titled "Canada's new PM Mark Carney infuriated Trump today by announcing a historic new deal for Canadians." As with other such posts, this no doubt leads to a crypto scam.

You know it's going well when ads for hotels in Florida targeting Canadians in late winter have mostly laugh or angry reactions, and the advertiser has turned the comments off.

Gatineau erasure in the SMH travel quiz
A quiz question asking "If you were to visit Canada’s impressively Gothic Parliament building and get an education at the Canadian Museum of History, what city would you be in?" The options are Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, and Toronto.

GrogWatch addendum: A note at the bottom of BC Liquor's website says some U.S. products are currently unavailable. British Columbia is stopping the sale of alcohol from Republican-controlled states.

There is now a note on the Nova Scotia Liquor Corporation's website that it'll stop selling U.S. products. PEI, Quebec and Manitoba have done the same, but there's nothing on their homepages at the moment.
A note stating "Removal of U.S. Products from the NSLC
Following the Province’s announcement on Tuesday, March 4, the NSLC will stop selling U.S. products.

Impacted products will be removed from our shelves in-store and their online listings will be removed from our website.

U.S. products are those that are made, manufactured, and/or produced in the U.S., regardless of where the product is shipped from.

For example, this would include a wine made in California and labelled "Product of USA/California," regardless of whether it ships to the NSLC directly from the U.S. or a location within Canada. Products made in Canada will not be removed.

If you are wondering whether a specific product is impacted, please refer to the criteria above and continue to check our website for the latest information."

Here are a couple of shopfronts in Ottawa, the pics taken between the February tariff backdown and the implementation this morning. Canadians are angry, and are taking more action than just booing the U.S. anthem at hockey games.

Newfoundland and Labrador's liquor board's website notes that all American products will not be available until further notice. Ontario's liquor board's site is down as it removes "while we remove U.S. products in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods."
The Newfoundland Labrador Liquor Corporation website, with a banner noting that "AS OF MARCH 4, ALL PRODUCTS PRODUCED IN THE U.S. WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE IN NLC LIQUOR STORES AND LIQUOR EXPRESS LOCATIONS UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE."The Liquor Control Board of Ontario's website, stating in English and French: "Service Unavailable
Our site is temporarily unavailable while we remove U.S. products in response to U.S. tariffs on Canadian goods.
Our in-store customer service remains unaffected.
Thank you for your patience and understanding."

Personal brag: for the first time, I did a return trip on the full 7.8 km of the Rideau Canal Skateway yesterday. Given I could barely stand on skates last time it was fully open, I was pretty happy! A great distraction from The Horrors™

At its warmest, the Canadian capital has been 3 degrees colder than DC when they decided it was too chilly for the inauguration to be held outside. Hasn't stopped people from showing up in Ottawa to skate and examine ice sculptures

With the exception of the government officials, public servants, reporters and industry groups forced to respond to the United States' economic attack on Canada, Ottawa is quite cheerful this weekend. Heaps of people out and about for the Winterlude festival.
