We successfully completed Eggbert’s first bike ride around the block.
Eggbert, a gray dog wearing a green harness, sits upright in the front cargo box of my bike, looking down a leafy residential street lined with parked cars and large trees.

Not yet, but there will be. They recently switched to reconstructing the south half of the street. You can see the layout that is west of Lyndale Ave will continue east to Chicago Ave. www.hennepincounty.gov/services/roa...
An overhead satellite view of the Franklin and Lyndale intersection. East of Lyndale Franklin has narrow sidewalks that butt up against a four lane stroad. West of Lyndale Franklin two lanes for cars, wider sidewalks, separate bike lanes, a boulevard, and nicer bus stops.

The new separated bike lane on westbound Franklin is open between Blaisdell and Lyndale! 🚲
A newly opened bike lane along Franklin Avenue, separated from vehicle traffic by what will become a planted boulevard and from the sidewalk by a metal tactile delineator strip. Construction continues on the south side of the street.

Beautiful morning for a ride, with what should be a beautiful view of Loring Park. Instead, the view is mostly parked cars.
Taking a morning selfie from the outdoor patio at Dunn Brothers next to Loring Park in Minneapolis. A red and blue cargo bike and green scooter are parked nearby. Across the street, a row of parked cars blocks much of the view of the green, tree-filled park.

Peak Minneapolis.

A ladder on the cargo bike definitely gets some looks. I even stopped at the hardware store for a few supplies. Just another day. #CarryShitOlympics #CargoBike
A red electric cargo bike is parked on the sidewalk outside a Frattallone’s Ace Hardware store with a green and yellow fiberglass ladder strapped securely to its cargo area. A black pannier on the bike reads “MAY USE FULL LANE.” Parked cars line the street beneath a bright blue sky with scattered clouds, with the hardware store and neighboring storefronts in the background.

I found this one a few days ago in our yard.
Close-up of a patch of white, foamy slime mold spreading across wood mulch beneath a lupine plant. The irregular, sponge-like growth has interconnected lobes and holes, with tufts of ornamental grass growing through one side.

Imagine seeing a red light, a no-turn-on-red sign, a crosswalk, and a bikeway, then deciding the correct place to stop your 18-wheeler is on top of all of it.
A large tanker truck stopped across both a marked crosswalk and bikeway at an intersection. The truck’s rear wheels are at the stop line, leaving its cab and much of the tanker blocking the entire crossing.

Eggbert’s first day of boot camp. He would like everyone to know that he is already a very good boy.
Eggbert, a gray pit mix with a white chest and toes, sits in his harness against a blue wall, looking up with wide, slightly worried eyes. Beside him, a letter board reads, “Eggs’s first day of boot camp!”

Good morning. Eggbert has a llama. That’s all. ❤️🦙
A gray pit bull with dusty dark brown undertones and a white patch running up his nose rests on a sunny window seat with his chin on a plush llama toy. He looks content as he gazes toward the camera, with pillows behind him and a green backyard visible through the windows.

The ride home was a lot less smoky than the ride in, but we figured we’d keep the superhero look going. 😷🚲 #MSPCycleCast #WildfireSmoke
Two people ride a cargo bike along a tree-lined path on a hazy summer day. Both wear bike helmets, sunglasses, and face masks because of wildfire smoke. The child sits in the front cargo box wearing a white helmet decorated with colorful stickers and looks into the camera, while the adult pedals behind wearing a blue bicycle-pattern neck gaiter over a mask. The sky is partly cloudy, and the air appears slightly hazy from smoke.

A decorative streetlight banner in the LynLake neighborhood of Minneapolis hangs beneath a blue sign that reads "LYNLAKE" with a stylized red-and-yellow sunburst logo above it. The turquoise banner features dozens of white circular designs resembling bicycle wheels, flowers, snowflakes, and geometric patterns arranged in a flowing teardrop shape. The banner is mounted on a dark green pole against a clear blue sky.

I just remembered... Two weeks ago, the forklift operator unloading this truck told me to fuck off after I pointed out they were blocking the bikeway as well.
full semi-truck and trailer is parked directly in the middle of a protected bikeway in downtown Minneapolis with the trailer's rear cargo door open for unloading. The trailer completely blocks the bikeway, forcing people biking to merge into the street or turn around. A flexible yellow bollard stands upright in the middle of the bikeway just behind the trailer. A person walks along the adjacent sidewalk. A "No Parking" sign and brick building are visible beneath a cloudy sky.

A fun game of "Spot the Bikeway Obstruction." I told the driver it was dangerous. He told me to fuck off.
A protected bikeway in downtown Minneapolis passes a parked Sysco semi-truck. A low metal ramp with two black-and-yellow warning stripes stretches completely across the bikeway from the truck to the sidewalk, blocking the entire riding surface and creating a difficult-to-see obstacle. The ramp is immediately beyond a driveway where drivers cross the bikeway, forcing people biking to watch for turning vehicles while also trying to avoid the unexpected hazard.

“Want to go get ice cream?” By the time we’d have everyone buckled into the car, we’re already a third of the way there by bike. An all ages & abilities bikeway makes the simple things simple. 🍦🚲 #BikeMN #Minneapolis

Amazing that the entire sidewalk had to be blocked because the loading dock was apparently too difficult to use.
A white box truck is parked completely across a downtown sidewalk directly beside a building, blocking the entire pedestrian path. A person wearing a bicycle helmet walks his bike and trailer off the edge of the sidewalk, unable to continue past the truck without walking in the street. A loading dock entrance is visible nearby, while light rail tracks and downtown buildings can be seen in the background.

Apparently the bike trail was part of the car show today. The purple car in this photo drove down the bikeway at my child while they were riding. The whole point of trails like this is to give people, especially children, somewhere to ride away from traffic.
A paved park bikeway curves through a wooded area under large shade trees. Several classic and specialty cars are parked on the grass beside the trail as part of a car show, including a purple car positioned near the edge of the bikeway. Small groups of people stand around the vehicles in the afternoon sun while the trail remains open through the park.

"No one wants to spend $8,600 on an EV that can't go highway speeds." Are you sure?
A red cargo bike with a clear weather canopy is parked on a snowy downtown sidewalk beside the METRO Green Line in Minneapolis. A blue-and-gold light rail train passes by on tracks separated from traffic, while modern high-rise apartments and office buildings line the street. The low winter sun glows between the buildings, highlighting a streetscape designed for transit and active transportation despite the cold weather.

This is why I love Minneapolis. We bike to the beach. The kids swim, dig in the sand, and wear themselves out. Then we bike home. It’s hard to beat.
Children play at a quiet sandy beach along a Minneapolis lake. Two children stand at the shoreline while others wade in shallow water. The beach is shaded by trees, and a wooded shoreline stretches across the calm lake under a partly cloudy sky.

Emerson Elementary celebrated turning 100 today. Seeing current students, former students, families, staff, and neighbors all come together to celebrate a century of the school was pretty amazing. Here’s to another 100 years. 🎉🏫

Imagine being so car-brained you can’t distinguish between a toddler’s toy and a vehicle used for transportation.
A side-by-side comparison of two very different “bikes” on a white background. On the left is a tiny red Radio Flyer toddler tricycle with cream-colored wheels, chrome handlebars, tassels, and small pedals sized for a young child. On the right is a large white electric cargo bike with a long frame, oversized front cargo box, disc brakes, integrated lights, and wide tires, designed for hauling groceries, cargo, or children as everyday transportation. The dramatic size difference highlights the absurdity of confusing a literal child’s toy with a real transportation vehicle used by adults.

According to the internet, using protected bikeways to take your family to the farmers market makes you a “bike bro.” The radical agenda continues: buying vegetables and plants without needing to park a car.
A smiling bearded man wearing a white bike helmet and sunglasses takes a selfie while riding in a protected bikeway in an urban neighborhood. Behind him, slightly out of focus, another adult rides a white cargo tricycle with a young child seated in the front cargo area wearing a helmet. A cargo trailer attached to the front bike in the foreground is filled with plants, fresh produce, and a couple of scooters from a local farmers market. The family is traveling along a separated bikeway on a sunny day with storefronts and city streets in the background.

Really cool how the all ages and abilities bikeway apparently doubles as overflow freight space for alcohol deliveries now. Very safe. Very welcoming.
A large semi truck is parked directly across a concrete curb-separated bikeway outside LITT Pinball Bar on a bright sunny day. The truck’s rear lift gate is lowered across the full width of the path, completely blocking access for people biking or rolling. Several metal beer kegs are visible inside the trailer. The black exterior wall of the bar has colorful horizontal rainbow stripes and a large “Open for Lunch” sign. Car traffic moves along the adjacent street to the left, while the blocked bikeway line disappears underneath the truck.

Every day is a cargo bike fest when the free parking is right outside the coffee shop 🚲☀️
Two cargo bikes are parked on a wide sidewalk outside a coffee shop on a bright sunny day in Minneapolis. One is a white front-loading family cargo trike with child seats in the front box, and the other is a black recumbent-style cargo bike parked beside it. The coffee shop windows are covered in colorful flower-shaped paper decorations, and striped black-and-white awnings hang overhead. Chalk drawings cover parts of the sidewalk. In the background, construction equipment and fencing sit near an intersection under a deep blue sky with scattered clouds.

It’s nice when we’re biking and we don’t have to think about traffic for a minute. The kids drift way out ahead and I’m not hovering or narrating every move. This is how it’s supposed to feel 🚲
Two young kids ride small bikes ahead on a wide, car-free paved trail in an urban area. The path is separated from nearby train tracks by a chain-link fence and runs beneath an overpass. Apartment buildings and a painted wall line the left side. Dark clouds hang overhead, but the trail is open, calm, and free of traffic.

All ages and abilities bikeway 🚲 Now featuring random boss encounters.
Two young kids on small bikes are lying on the ground on a paved bikeway, pretending they crashed into a construction trailer that is parked directly across the path. Their bikes are next to them.
