I've decided to shut my business and do more volunteer / community work. If you know of an organisation which could use a board member with strong digital skills, extensive experience in open source and open standards, or cybersecurity please let me know.

The instinct when uptake drops is to blame parents, but the number of parents who are fully anti vaccine tends to be relatively small (despite how prominent those voices are on social media)

If you look at the uptake stats for Men ACWY there's a lot of variation in eligibility and delivery across NHS regions. It also states that the pandemic affected uptake, as has rollout of other vaccines (such as extending flu vaccine to older age groups).

A lot of the quotes on this are focused on anti vaxxers, however that's only 1 factor for why children might not be vaccinated

Yeah that's it exactly - there's something about a lot of books I love - but appreciate that this might not be something everyone has

I think this still happens for me with a digital library search - I put in the title of the paper I want a full text version of, and find other interesting papers.

This was what I remember from my very first degree. Also the act of going to look for recommended reading books, would mean coming across other very interesting books.

Keeping your New Year's resolutions on track can be hard, even for those of us in health psychology! So if you need a helping hand (or a new research area to explore), here are 5 books by psychologists on popular resolution topics: sleep, stress, drinking, exercise and eating.

So many food banks are stretched at the moment, so do consider donating / joining any campaigns they are running www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...

The food bank's plea for donations comes as figures showed rising demand across the West Midlands.

Have made a Christmas hamper for the food bank (they do a campaign every year - we decorate big cardboard boxes with wrapping paper and then fill them with food). Given how deprived our area is, I'm always touched by the number of hampers they receive.

Was really great to collaborate with my supervisor, and other Derby students on this commentary. Also my first as a correspondence author! We looked at HPV vaccine uptake in boys 👇 www.mdpi.com/2813-2882/3/...

The use case makes no sense to me. If I wanted something that misunderstands a paper but confidently, I could look on Reddit or twitter

Increasingly baffled by "AI powered" summaries and searches on academic papers. firstly, the abstract is the summary, secondly if I need to understand something about the paper, I can read it? if I need to find a specific phrase ctrl f does absolutely fine

I feel as though the solution to lots of researchers needing PPIE groups to satisfy funding requirements isn't using AI to generate plausible sounding insights

This seems bizarre to me, and perhaps due to viewing lived experience as simply a matter of whether people fit in one box or another.

People think social media is done by interns
010
Stephanie Davey @stephaniedavey.bsky.social · 03/06/2025
Also the platforms themselves, they track you across sites. TikTok has a very uncanny ability to surface content sometimes. So someone might be looking at legitimate information online, but then get a bunch of poor quality mental health videos in their FYP
000
Stephanie Davey @stephaniedavey.bsky.social · 03/06/2025
I think there are multiple issues here. One is that people will sometimes give advice without being clear it's only based on their own experience. Another is that social media encourages short snappy engaging content and that conflicts with providing good information.

Stephanie Davey @stephaniedavey.bsky.social · 03/06/2025
The problem is that mental health services in this country are not very well funded and for more complex types of therapy people have to wait. What are they going to do in the meantime? Look for information online
