Some style guides, like the AP style guide, include spaces on either side of the em dash.
Screenshot from the AP Stylebook: "... being inauthentic. It’d be nice if there was an easy tell.
Unfortunately, that tell is not the em dash, which has been around for many years. In fact, they are so ubiquitous in AP lingo, we just call them dashes. They are about the width of a capital letter M, and always get a space on either side, except in sports agate.
Some reasons to use an em dash, from the AP Stylebook:

ABRUPT CHANGE: Use dashes to denote an abrupt change in thought in a sentence or an emphatic pause: Through her..."

Georgia's AG even said that keeping her on life support was inconsistent with the abortion ban.
Screenshot from The Guardian:
Newkirk [the mother of Adriana Smith, the Georgia woman declared brain dead in February and who was kept ~alive on life support because she was pregnant] said that doctors had informed her they had no choice but to keep Smith on life support, but the hospital has declined to comment on Smith’s case, citing privacy rules. In a statement to the Associated Press, the hospital said it “uses consensus from clinical experts, medical literature, and legal guidance to support our providers as they make individualized treatment recommendations in compliance with Georgia’s abortion laws and all other applicable laws. Our top priorities continue to be the safety and wellbeing of the patients we serve.”

However, the office of Georgia’s attorney general, Chris Carr, released a statement saying that Georgia’s ban does not require medical professionals to keep women alive on life support after being declared brain dead.

“Removing life support is not an action with the purpose to terminate a pregnancy,” Carr’s spokesperson, Kara Murray, said in the statement.

You can have trains and democracy btw. The US had a much more interconnected passenger rail system in the 1960s than it does today. We invested in cars, highways and sprawl, and demanded that passenger rail/Amtrak be profitable, instead of treating it like a public good.
Two maps of the US passenger rail system. The top map shows the rail network in 1962, when many routes had service at least three times daily. The lower map shows the rail network in 2005, which has fewer routes, and service is much less frequent.

"A train to nowhere" but it's connecting the most populous cities in California, the places where tourists spend their money 🙄
A map with both the California high speed rail plans and the population density per square mile across California. High speed rail stations are proposed in areas with the highest population density.

I saw Wicked on January 1st and I've had the soundtrack on repeat since then lol
Screenshot of my Apple Music Replay for January 2025. My top artist is Cynthia Erivo, who I listened to for 1337 minutes. My top song is Dancing Through Life from the Wicked Soundtrack, which is my top album. In January 2025, I listened to the Wicked soundtrack for more minutes than any of my top albums from all of 2024.

She is very gorgeous to me!!
A photo of a computer screen with the RStudio program open. In the RStudio Console, there is a data frame with a list of variables and summary statistics for each variable. For example, the top row shows that 355, or 51.44 percent, of the study sample is female. Among female children in this sample, the mean body mass index standardized score is 0.63, and the standard deviation is 2.94.
