Is been so hard seen people on same stage publish more and feel they are more successful. They also have more students, and different family and immigrantion circumstances. Like they are so so smart and hardworking and is so hard to not compare because academia wants you to compare yourself

Tenure year brings reflections. And I need to give myself grace for the wild circumstances I have lived through the last 5 years. But also quantity is not quality. I have some very good stuff on the pipeline that has taken years to build and polish because first rounds failed. I am still good at this

I've kept telling people not to sleep on Mississippi. Can you imagine what this barnburner Senate election between Cindy Hyde-Smith and Scott Colom would've looked like had one-sixth of its Black population regained the right to vote overnight? bsky.app/profile/dutc...

This is why more women don't come forward, and why more rapists aren't jailed. Because mostly-male cops and prosecutors find it more believable that a 20-yr-old would want to have sex with a room full of fraternity brothers than accept she was raped. What ever happened to common fucking sense?

Underneath are stylized drawings of people of various ages, genders, and ethnicities holding signs reading 'overtime pay', 'living wage laws', 'parental leave', 'civil rights', 'domestic partner benefits', social security, child labour laws, paid vacations, pension benefits, OSHA, grievance procedures, workplace power, health benefits, workers comp, minimum wage, farm labor rights, unemployment insurance, the weekend.

This Labor Day, if you've ever benefited from:   — The weekend — 40-hour work weeks — Workplace safety standards — A minimum wage — Paid time off   thank a union.   Unions don’t just improve working conditions for their members, they help every American worker.   Happy Labor Day!

satin ribbons

After unexpectedly winning her first blue ribbon for a sewn cape in 1981, Carol St. Clair Johnson developed an enduring love for the New Mexico State Fair. The quilt Fair New Mexico-41 Fair Years incorporates more than six hundred of the ribbons she won at the fair every subsequent year except 2020 (when the fair was canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson earned ribbons for needlework, knitting, crochet, pies, cookies, cakes, canning, jewelry, flowers, vegetables, and potted plants. The title of the quilt is a reference to the state song, and the design places the state's Zia sun symbol at the center. The quilt earned Johnson yet another ribbon: Best in Category (miscellaneous quilt) at the 2023 New Mexico State Fair.
