That was my first thought. Police pulls you over and you get a felony charge for recording them on your cell phone because they didn't clearly see it.

I understand the smart glasses veto though, because as I understand it - it wasn't a bill banning the glasses, but recording video of someone without their consent or knowledge. Which means that there was a very real probability that the first people arrested for it would be recording the police.

No, not really. I'm on PC, but yeah, I got my ass handed to me by my dad in like 30 seconds.

You too? I just started it tonight myself. Much easier on a controller, because it's one attack/block button and a direction.

Honestly? Stalls cost more money than urinals. It's the same reason why parents complain about 20 year old textbooks and then vote against a $1 tax levy to buy new ones by 95%.

Policy does not matter in American politics. And complaining about the "status quo" is some white privileged cis het leftist bullshit borne by never facing consequences for your actions. The only thing that matters is who you want to decide what is a national emergency and what isn't.

We just saw what happened when we tried to raise taxes on the 1% They used their media, influencers, sponsors, and propaganda networks to convince us to elect Trump. Twice. Clinton and Harris both campaigned on a wealth tax.

It really seems like the GOPs media machine is not near as effective as it was back when ACORN went from a 40 year old organization that no one heard of into one subject of numerous Congressional investigations, defunding attempts, and ultimately declaring bankruptcy in just under a year.

But are people willing to pay the costs of such things? Even people who claim that they want them? They couldn't even show up to vote to make sure Trump went to jail after he was indicted twice. They're definitely not going to support their taxes going up a national service draft being enacted.

The problem is that far too many people think that there will be some "undo Trump" button that the next administration can push that will not only remove his orders and people, but also remove the consequences from what those people did. Which is why so many treat elections like consumers.

Not disagreeing. Just pointing out that the money won't be coming from Trump. It'll be from us. As will the Renee Goode settlement, every settlement from the wrongfully deported, and from the people whose rights were infringed upon by the current administration.

No, just someone with a fully formed brain and understanding of US law and its limitations. It's not my fault you weren't taught that life isn't a video game and things can't be undone. Perhaps you two bigots shouldn't have thrown your future away to give Netanyahu the President he wanted.

You cannot make something that was legal illegal and then punish someone for it. That is explicitly banned in the Constitution, known as "ex post facto" law. Sorry, but sometimes when you shoot yourself in the head because you decided not to vote for the Black woman, you have permanent damage.

STEMthebleeding @stemthebleeding.bsky.social · 12h
There is no mechanism to do so. Any attempt to do so would be blocked by the same laws that blocked him. When we as a nation decided to make him President, we took on the responsibilities of his actions and their consequences.

Would you be surprised to know that 3 days after this Harris proposed a wealth tax on unrealized capital gains and all of a sudden her entire campaign coverage just - disappeared?

Not gonna disagree.

Get ready to pay the lawsuit, folks! In fact, it won't surprise me if by 2028 settlements are a statistically notable part of our federal budget. Trump doesn't care if he loses every case and gets sued 100x a day - because he's not the respondant on the suit. The US government is. WE ARE.
081
STEMthebleeding @stemthebleeding.bsky.social · 14h
He can sue us taxpayers, but not Trump or any of his merry morons.
150
STEMthebleeding @stemthebleeding.bsky.social · 14h
Yep. The lawsuit against US TAXPAYERS. The suit will read "The US government" as respondant, not Trump, or Blanche, or Homan, or Miller, or any individual. Every lawsuit filed against him will be paid out by us. And we deserve nothing less for our collective stupidity.

Yep! It is rather fickle though, so if you're one of those people on phones and you accidentally hit the period key instead of space, it'll create a bad.link and you might not realize it until you've already posted. Just something to keep in mind. But otherwise, super useful! (Don't click.)

This isn't to say WFH is bad, or that it's good. I personally think hybrid schedules are the best thing, but ymmv. But it did have repercussions outside of its bubble. Many of them foreseeable (loss of business for service industry), but some were unexpected.

STEMthebleeding @stemthebleeding.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
One of the things we neglected to consider is how much our rapid shift from traditional to wfh caused problems in unrelated portions of the economy. We saw things like housing prices in Oklahoma skyrocket because of remote work, service industries tanked, and we forgot how to behave in public.

There's this magic Gen X tool for allowing you to get things out of your head that you won't be held accountable for later on: Well, it's two tools, really. It's called a journal, and a lighter. You write it down, get it out, and then set it ablaze. And then you move on with your life.

It'll be A) a lot of Republicans refusing to comply with subpoenas or pleading the 5th (they'll call it taking a Fauci) B) a lot of rapid bills passed between now and January, appointments and I'd guess funding to keep Democrats from having leverage C) a lot of media blaming Dems for 55=/=67.

STEMthebleeding @stemthebleeding.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Considering that the media effectively stopped covering the Harris campaign live within a week of her putting out a wealth tax proposal and saying she'd keep on Lina Khan and returned to their breathless livestream of Trump's empty pod..lectern..

The actions Trump has taken in the last 72 hours (offering bribes, blaming messaging, begging Hispanics to vote even though they dont like him) all but conceded that A) he's losing both the midterms and control of the GOP B) he can't cancel/cheat elections C) his administration is going to end

I don't know, someone loaded a bunch of "look, we're not doing well right now messaging wise, and you should vote for us if even if you don't like us" lines into his teleprompter. Also, turns out this was a Hispanic Heritage event.

Yep. It became so pervasive in the sport that eventually it took the league being the "bad guy" and forcing the teams to do random testing (and putting some asterisks next to some official records). Teams expected lower sales. But global circumstances mitigated that fear.

I use steroids in baseball, because it is one of the easiest to understand for the uninitiated. Fans wanted to see big home runs. They incentivized teams finding the way to hit the ball far. If your team didn't allow steroid users, you couldn't compete and you'd lose your fans.

It's a lot like steroids in baseball, or Citizens United. Just refusing doesn't work if you're the only side to do it. In this case, the AI companies are worried about either getting sued for what their systems do, or getting sued by shareholders for lying to them. Congress is their out.

First thing you learn on a battlefield is There are no good or bad guys. Only allies, enemies, and indigenous populations stuck in the center that may shift from one side to the other depending on how your side conducts itself. Ergo, there are no simple and easy solutions to resolving a conflict.

Not quite. Egos and incompetence are what created the DHS. 9/11 is just what put those failures of Republican character into the spotlight because they refused to work with each other, share information, and instead chased the spotlight. DHS literally could've been an org chart.

I don’t own individual stocks, and I won’t own them as governor. The only thing I am invested in is lowering costs for Ohioans. Vivek Ramaswamy has over $5 million invested in the data center industry and millions more in many other industries that Ohio’s governor would be in charge of regulating.

I personally think they're a better fit for the science majors since they tend to be the less extroverted types and need the additional networking options. Plus a STEM frat party is going to be some combination of drunken DND and a Rube Goldberg machine spanning half the the dorm.

Yeah, I know. Honestly I think the issue is less the fraternity, and more the fact the access to alcohol for minors that they provide (and the sense that they should have to "pay" for that alcohol) If a freshman could buy their own alcohol, the leverage frats and sororities have would diminish.
