Climate change increases deadly heat risk in Southern Europe. Across 34 countries, 2022-like heat mortality events were 26.5× more likely in Southern Europe than under pre-industrial conditions, ~10× the European average. Risk rises sharply with warming. www.nature.com/articles/s44...

Nature has an amazing way of creating diversity: more species create opportunities for even more species🌴🐛🦟. But can this continue forever? Our research suggests there are limits. We found parasite diversity constrained by survival in landscapes. Preprint: tinyurl.com/mskh4nf3

One billion more people face at least one day of extreme heat stress each year compared with the 1970s, according to a paper in Nature Climate Change. The findings show that global heat stress is intensifying across events during the day, night, and during both the day and night. 🌎🧪

Global heat stress intensification and its expanding footprint on the human population - Nature Climate Change
The authors assess global changes in heat stress since 1950, considering daytime extremes, nocturnal heat and compound day–night events. They show multidimensional intensification, with an increased frequency of extremes and expanded spatial and temporal footprints of heat stress on humans.
