My jacket has started to develop holes in the back. The way I see it, I have two main patching options: either I can just patch the affected area or I can make a huge decorative patch for the whole back. I'm leaning towards a large patch because that could be […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

The aluminum frame pieces are painted and one screen is in! I will probably give the other frame another coat of paint and give it a bit longer to dry because the paint on the first one scratched a bit during screen installation and I'd also missed a few spots […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

This #caturday we went to a farm to pick up some pumpkins and were treated to kittens! There were at least three adult cats around as well, but only two of them wanted pets and I only photographed the one I presume to be the mother to all the kittens. The […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

Stage one of replacing the missing screens in our house is complete. The aluminum frames have been acquired, cut to size and filed. Stage two will be painting them beige to match the other screens in the house (I'd have purchased beige aluminum, but the […] [Original post on mastodon.world]

This little guy fell from a window in my child's room when I opened it, so I escorted it outside. It looks like it's a bold jumping spider, which should be fairly harmless, but it's probably safer outside where it can freely hunt things than in my child's room where it can be accidentally smashed.

Got back from holiday. We spent some time with friends and family, swam in the ocean, saw lots of mountains, wildlife, livestock and corn, got to ride on a boat and in an airplane for fun and had a good time. #holiday

I think the plants that have impressed me the most in the garden are the violas and the marigolds. I've only ever seen either of them looking kind of sad and small before and didn't realize they could have just so many flowers or get so big. #bloomScrolling #gardening

A small area of a garden. At the edge of the garden is a viola plant that has grown among a daisy showing several purple and yellow blooms, followed by a fair sized marigold plant with about half a dozen large orange flowers and then another viola plant with more purple and yellow. Further into the garden is a chive plant, a pink speedwell a dianthus with bright pink flowers, a yarrow plant with pink flowers and a bunch of chamomile. Amidst the flowering plants are a number of smaller volunteers and some deer hoofprints in the dirt.

First stage of fig tree planting: complete. I dug a hole (with a little help from my kiddo), put the tree in it, backfilled and did some initial watering and added mulch. Next phase is to build a small fence around it to protect it from the local critters. #fig #tree #treePlanting #gardening

This paragraph in The Dawn of Everything is just so real and relatable. #family #prehistory #humans

A page in a book with a blue arrow highlighting the start of a paragraph. The paragraph reads as follows:

There is an obvious objection to evolutionary models which assume that our strongest social ties are based on close biological kinship: many humans just don't like their families very much. And this appears to be just as true of present-day hunter-gatherers as anybody else. Many seem to find the prospect of living their entire lives (sentence is cut off by the end of a page).

The top of a page where a paragraph continues as follows:

...surrounded by close relatives so unpleasant that they will travel very long distances just to get away from them. New work on the demography of modern hunter-gatherers -- drawing statistical comparisons from a global sample of cases, ranging from the Hadza in Tanzania to the Australian Martu -- shows that the residential group turn out not to be made up of biological kin at all; and the burgeoning field of human genomics is beginning to suggest a similar picture for ancient hunter-gatherers as well, all the way back to the Pleistocene."

At the end of the paragraph is a digitally drawn blue arrow.
