Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 06/10/2026wouldn't it be simpler to just rewrite react in lean from scratch? js/ts/java/haskell/etc. seem to be dead ends nowadays or maybe even invent a better abstraction for ui 000
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 04/10/2026writing code is dead, long live reading tests, er, learning formal verification then formalizing all the things 000
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026A major obstacle was cost. Proofs were brutally expensive to write by hand. Now AI grinds through the tedious obligations, Lean's kernel checks every step, and we get the part that was always the real work: deciding what "correct" means. Math went first. Let's formalize everything else. 000
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026It's already happening. AWS modeled Cedar, its authorization policy language, in Lean and proved its core guarantees. Rules about who can access what, the kind of logic most of us implement straight from a ticket. 120
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026Math is already going this way. Mathlib grows every week. My bet: math isn't special. Anything we can state precisely can be formalized, whether it's access control, payment flows, protocols, tax rules or business logic. We've just been writing it in tickets and hoping the code matched. 100
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026If you've ever felt flow while debugging, it's the same loop, with a proof at the end. And when AI can generate a hundred proofs, taste matters more: which one is clear, which abstraction is right, which lemma deserves to be reused. 100
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026That's what formalization demands, and it's why the fun part survives. Writing a proof is hands-on. You state what must be true, split the goal into subgoals, hunt for the right invariant, and watch the goal state shrink line by line. 110
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026We rarely knew our code was correct. We just hadn't seen it break yet. AI is very good at glue. But the craft was always something else: understanding a problem so precisely that a machine can't misunderstand it. 110
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 24/09/2026If you loved programming and feel like AI is taking it away from you: the craft isn't disappearing. It's finally beginning. For decades, most of what we called programming was glue. Wiring libraries together, patching edge cases, testing a handful of inputs and hoping the rest behave. 120
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 20/09/2026Which approach is better, React or Solid? That was a rhetorical question. I think Lean can reconcile both 🙃. Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 10/09/2026And Evolu as well, because once something is genuinely local-first, we can’t magically fix things on the server. Maximum correctness is a must. I think we’re at the beginning of something big again :-) 010
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 10/09/2026I learned a ton along the way and eventually came to the conclusion that even the strictest TypeScript isn’t sound enough — and neither are Haskell or Rust. I think one day I’ll rewrite the entire Evolu library in Lean. 120
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 10/09/2026Hi! I came back to Bluesky to see what’s going on here, and I see you’re into Lean! Me too! I recently implemented my own TypeScript standard library for Evolu, with structured concurrency, resource management, etc., so I could understand all the design decisions myself. 120
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 07/08/2026It's already happening; when long LLM sessions start producing sentences so dense and complicated, I have a problem understanding them. Yet, they are often correct. That story is super short and super visionary. 000

Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 25/10/2025The point of work is to make people suffer for money. Until AI feels pain, it will not replace humans. When robots and artificial intelligence can do everything humans can, it will still make sense to pay people to pay attention to you. For example, artists will pay people to consume their work. 100

Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 12/08/2025Rules are essential. To enforce rules, we need rulers. Classical liberalism/libertarians/ancap are against a single monopolistic ruler (e.g., the State). Without competition, people can not choose what works for them. That's actually the main point of classical liberalism: it's against monopoly. 110
Daniel Steigerwald @steida.bsky.social · 12/08/2025When people think about classical liberalism (both libertarianism and anarchocapitalism use that methodology) without going deeper, they believe the State enforces rules which are helpful for society, while silly libertarians want to have no rules. That's not true. 100
