Trump operating a country as like an LLM trying to upgrade your old machine. I hope you have a backup ready, this isn't going to end good and you'll need that backup and someone who know how to restore it. 🤣

Good news: everything I tested with the lastest Wine on FreeBSD worked like a charm. Bad news: KDE stops supporting Xorg soon and Wayland still gets you only a working mouse pointer if you are lucky. 🤐

Replicate to what, my CPU? Good luck with that one. These people are doing everything to stay in the news so they can get more money when they do their stupid IPO.

It's not that they eventually going to pay for that with more taxes and such. We all know that all this city stuff just replaces itself for free. No worry kids. 😉

wine-devel-11.19 on FreeBSD 15.1 - I'm impressed, pretty much anything I test just seems to work, even some 32bit stuff I tested. 👍

Yeah, high probability it didn't even have ZFS or made snapshots but if you are lucky enough the missing packages are still in /var/cache and you could theoretically get the old version base, create a jail with it, reinstall the packages, move data and would have it up and running again pretty fast.

Basically: not cool!

Oh, nu ineens is de hardware niet meer beschikbaar en willen ze me geld geven ipv garantie verlenen. Die optimizers werken alleen met hun rommel dus ik hoop dat ze die ook allemaal kosteloos vervangen dan of geld terug. 🤔

You sometimes just end up with some construction like this and just zero-trust the hell out of it. 🤫 Don't use an LLM unless you know what you are doing, also never ever give it access to the machine and type the commands yourself!

Yeah, works for you at home don't do this on a production server without first checking if stuff would still work. If you are running something that doesn't exist anymore in packages or ports and you didn't jail it and include all the libraries you are screwed. It just removes the package. 🤣

When 15.0.0 releases? 🤔

Most stuff seem to be working again, when I'm done I'll upload this modified 15.1 abomination to github. #FreeBSD #CUDA

Now back to the more important stuff.. What else did I break on my personal machine and needs fixing. 🤣

Since day one when you deleted a host from IPAM you couldn't add one with the same name and had to call me to 'fix the database'. Added 1 line of code to fix the issue, only took me ~13 years to bother. 😉

Finally fixed a 13 year old bug on our Intranet. 🤣

Added the option to hide the HV bit per VM again, didn't have to patch anything for the Radeon but it didn't overwrite all the files during the update so some patches were still there and it just needed a recompile. 👍

Only 1 panic because I patched and compiled linuxulator, pseudofs and linprocs for I forgot that pseudofs is in the kernel. 🤣

Fixed CUDA again so it works without any shims. Now I should probably get my bhyve patches working again. 👍

Still have a bunch of stuff to fix again but at least I'm back in KDE. Plasma complaining that X11 support is going to be dropped in the next version is not funny since Wayland doesn't work for me. (I prefer X11 because it gives me more then just a mouse pointer)

Next time I want to install something that even looks at Qt, please stop me. 🤣 It has been 0 days since I had to repair my OS.

SolarEdge / DakProfijt kan je dus beter geen zaken mee doen. Wacht nu al maanden op de nieuwe omvormer, had ondertussen een nieuwe kunnen kopen die ik nu al weer terug had verdient.

I remember now why this jail was still on 13 and figured out quickly it's going to stay there until the end of its days. 🤣

It's actually not that bad. Just saying.

What they want isn't even free speech, they just want to be free of consequences / free of accountability and do whatever they can to make more money over the back of everybody else. Also don't Americans hate free stuff? 🤔

Created a little tool to monitor all processes in jails on the cluster. 👍

Who would have known that people sometimes actually like to mutate records in an IPAM database and not just only look at them? 🤣

** Fix it Tuesday ** Now they are finally finding some stuff I apparently have broken. 🤣

Stefan Rink @stefanrink.bsky.social · 05/10/2026
Didn't have to do anything crazy, they called me back just in time. 👍 Also didn't break anything this weekend so this is a pretty boring Monday.

Waiting all morning for another department to call me back, if they don't do that within an hour I'm just going give myself access and do it myself. 🤐

Also I gave it about half the resources in Bhyve and it's still at least 3 times faster with about everything you do. (GUI and scanning)

If your OpenVAS is slow as shit, try running it on a Bhyve instead of on a Nutanic VM. Same hardware but was like night and day. Guess the storage layer wasn't that happy with the massive amount of database queries on Nutanix.

By the way before the weekend the Icinga database was still running on the first MySQL server where they switched from stone tablets to magnets but because it all was in zero-trust and if someone even farted near that jail it would start yelling at me on Telegram, I never bothered to upgrade it. 🤣
000
Stefan Rink @stefanrink.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
It's gonna be like some SSL library saying some old protocol is depricated and we should use another and I'd be like: well who is going to dig up the dead programmers and ask them to fix it? ;-) I know some stuff is old but we still need to monitor it. 🤣
000
Stefan Rink @stefanrink.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Only broken the monitoring a little with all my updates/consolidations/changes but I also managed to fix it all so it's fine. Next weekend I can try even harder to break and then fix stuff because I can focus on Icinga and the many many polling scripts in languages like Python that love updates. 🤣

He is no longer getting that 'high' from the hyped-up audience so he'll probably just try and find it elsewhere. 🤔

Stefan Rink @stefanrink.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
If you reading this and have a Netscaler running on the internet you may want to upgrade it again today also. Some DDoS issues apparently that need patching.

Stefan Rink @stefanrink.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
If they thought we don't use or monitor stuff on Sunday they were wrong. 🤣
