From the book #HowToMakeADifference, by K&E Robertson. This is why @watch-notequalyet.bsky.social Chair #MartineOborne & theologian/journalist #TheoHobson are visionaries. They advocate unity, justice & honesty in the @churchofengland.org -ending the 2014 Settlement which allows exclusion of women.

The @churchofengland.org church St Simon Zelotes in Chelsea has, according to the #BishopofEbbsfleet, a policy of excluding women from various roles, aka #MaleHeadship/‘#Complementarian’, #WomenSubjecttoMen. But I can’t see any mention of this on their website. @Mike Neville - will you correct this?

1. Q 39 was another asked re #TransparencyAboutPCCResolutions @churchofengland.org #Synod. 3/4 of these bishops’ websites don’t mention the word women on their front page. Most churchgoers aren’t going to research further, as to why a particular bishop is allocated to their church.
General Synod question answer says another CofE talking shop is ‘happy to consider’ creating a list.

In my earlier post, I omitted the last, ludicrous, phrase of the answer to Question 38 for @churchofengland.org’s 7.25 General #Synod: ‘it is hoped’. We gave up hoping many years ago. Hoping hasn’t worked. Bishops need actually to do something effectual to ensure #TransparencyAboutPCCResolutions
At the end of the ‘answer’, it says ‘it is hoped [this will encourage churches] to ‘find ways’ to ‘discuss’ their position on women’s ministry in open & clear ways. Again, hoping is not ensuring.

Mid 2025: yet more @churchofengland.org #Synod members ask bishops via written Questions for #TransparencyAboutPCCResolutions which exclude women from equality in ministry. The ‘answer’ actually means ‘nothing’. But it’s hidden in a word-soup of drivel. This must end. @watch-notequalyet.bsky.social

@churchofengland.org #PLF When will bishops stop this arrogant & lawless behaviour? If they are getting this ‘oversight’ << for their parish >>, then how could clergy think they have the right to force that on their churchgoers?
Screenshot of page from website of Church of England Evangelical Council advising clergy that they can impose ‘overseers’ onto their churches, which the churches don’t want.

Someone asked what Parliament’s approach was when the 2012 women bishops vote failed. For what it’s worth here’s ChatGPT’s answer:

Lizzie Taylor’s comment on how bishops will probably only take action when action becomes less troublesome than inaction. Have we reached that point?

#NotEqualYet Reaction on ThinkingAnglicans to @churchofengland.org bishops’ latest meeting outcome. Is it now time for a national consultation & then a debate in #GeneralSynod? A start wd be requiring honestly-phrased, genuinely-communicative #TransparencyAboutPCCResolutions on church websites

This church wants to exclude women from applying. Has their PCC followed www.churchofengland.org/sites/defaul... during this vacancy, & consulted the wider church community to see if this is actually the wish of their @churchofengland.org parish?

Reply to Gareth (no last name) on ThinkingAnglicans.org . @churchofengland.org women know the 2014 #womenbishops Settlement by its fruit. #NotEqualYet @watch-notequalyet.bsky.social #ByTheirFruits
Screenshot of my comment on the Thinking Anglicans website, pointing out that those supporting the dysfunctional 2014 settlement ignore & never respond about the harm now being done to women & girls. It’s as if we simply aren’t here/or are of no importance.

@churchofengland.org women are now speaking up. We had to be firm to - be ‘allowed’ by men to go to university - be ‘allowed’ ..to vote - be ‘allowed’ ..to be ordained - be ‘allowed’ ..to be bishops - etc It’s an ongoing struggle. Latest iteration = the #NewMisogyny @watch-notequalyet.bsky.social

#AndrewCornes et al will potentially face a CDM, as the new #ClergyConductMeasure perhaps won’t become law till 2026. #Makin #JohnSmyth Cornes needs replacing on the #CrownNominationsCommission now. Abackup is needed for the appointment process for the next #ArchbishopofCanterbury

#JustinWelby #Makin #Smyth Interesting that the @FT is one of the few news outlets to report this accurately. It’s been troubling how distorted & inaccurate the coverage has been from other, previously-respected, media.

The @prayerbook_soc published this (p19 of its Michaelmas 24 Today magazine). The article’s author is Adele Stephenson. #churchofengland. The #PrayerBookSociety should not be belittling women clergy. It’s a rich, (until now) respectable organisation.

This is incorrect. The leaders are not doing that. Apart from core orthodoxy matters like incarnation, Trinity, atonement, the more peripheral doctrines of the Church of England, such as the ones you seek schism over, has changed down the centuries. Think of slavery, equality for women.

Dr Wambunya, next Bishop of Wolverhampton, says he took part in a personal capacity. Imagine a judge donning wig & gown, claiming to pass sentence on someone ’in a personal capacity’. The Church of England has many problems with clergy accountability, including bishops’ accountability.

Does anyone in @DioceseNorwich or @churchofengland know when this church went into long-term vacancy? & does it have a PCC? Since 2018 the bishop of Maidstone listed it as being under his oversight, as does the bishop of Ebbsfleet now. But it seems to have been effectively closed for several years.
