Even mainline Protestants aren't immune from the stranger danger moral panics, and while many of these have evolved into just another church event or community based events, they still have their roots in fear of others.

Yes injuries and fatalities have increased, as is always the case with introduction of new modes and this increase looks scary but still pales in comparison to the number of kids killed/injured annually by drivers!

Nope, I worry this is a moral panic using the increase from near zero in injuries to dozens as a way to 1. continue to criminalize being a kid, 2. to shield drivers from consequences and 3, it's just another new things that boomers and older people just don't understand yet so that equals bad.

I can see the response already "that's not violence, that is someone being impatient" As if someone running around with a loaded gun pointing it at people isn't violence just because they don't pull the trigger, or this driver isn't committing violence unless they actually hit you 🙄

The concerns of surveillance are real, but like all tech, these do offer quite a bit of usefulness for those of us who are visually impaired. The camera paired with a voice and an app that recognizes objects, and can read for us is immensely beneficial, but yeah, it shouldn't be storing recordings

I rode bike to school from about the 4th grade on, and I really miss those bikes. Somehow the disappeared when I moved to college and I couldn't take them with me. My school was super car dependent & not at all accessible by bicycle.

in the mid/late 19080's my grandmother won two Schwinn Le Tour 10 speeds on the Price is Right. I was gifted them in the early 1990's and rode them daily though high school. I also don't recall any real harassment, but then, there are 2x the number of cars now as then (and drivers).

Like I get some of the fear of "large crowds of kids" because of fights etc but this is really our fault as parents/elders for denying kids the ability to see other kids in non supervised settings often & our failure to socialize them better. We have created this problem & we blame the kids for it!

On day 3 of #AWeekWithoutDriving I took the train to ride my bike on the Katy trail with a friend. I ran into my friend Lauren who was waiting for another train, then Ran into my friend Rick on the train I was on. Trains are awesome and community building, cars suck and are isolating! #HotTake

I love that bus, we also took it, then found out if you walk the trail on the other side of the park, there were some great little swimming spots next to some smaller waterfalls.
