Every now and then I get a dumb idea and wish I could draw it, but I can't draw, so I don't. The idea that someone else might just prompt a genAI spurred me to suck it up and make bad art today. It sucks, it's probably only funny to a few people, and I should be embarrassed, BUT IT WAS FUN
A truly godawful line drawing on lined notebook paper of a horned demon with a battle axe and some sort of hooded shrouded thing, maybe Death? relaxing bubbling water. The horned demon is smiling with its eyes closed and the shrouded figure (who has smoking eyes no other visible features) is raising a glass. A sign or banner above them reads "HARBINGER HOT SPRINGS."

The drawing is a mix of pencil and pen because I failed to notice that I'd grabbed a pen halfway through until I needed to erase something. That's also why the demon has an extra elbow. Fuckin' oops.

They're trying to sneak it in the backdoor tomorrow morning!
The City of Oakland is seeking a waiver to move the Flock proposal forward despite its defeat last night. The matter has been agendized at tomorrow’s meeting of the Rules and Legislation Committee, Thursday November 20, at 10:30am, City Hall (meeting details).

We need as many community members as possible to show up and call out this flagrant overreach. Unfortunately, because the agenda was posted less than 24 hours before the meeting, the window for e-comments has already closed.

If you cannot go to the meeting, please email the members of the Rules and Legislation Committee, copying the City Clerk so that it will go on public record. Contact information and sample language below. Please spread the word!

SAMPLE E-MAIL AND TALKING POINTS

Subject: Reject the overreach of the Flock proposal and open public comment

Dear [Councilmember's name],

I am writing to express my outrage over the attempt to push through the Flock proposal after its clear defeat at the Public Safety Committee meeting last night. Hundreds of Oakland residents showed up to voice their opposition, and the Privacy Advisory Commission also voted against this proposal. This attempt to bypass the will of your constituents is a flagrant overreach.

I urge you to reject this undemocratic move and stand with the people of Oakland. Additionally, given the last-minute addition of the Flock item to the agenda, I demand that the Rules and Legislation Committee immediately open public comment to all residents wishing to participate via Zoom, without requiring 24 hours' notice.

We must have a fair and transparent process, and that means rejecting this blatant overstep, and allowing all voices to be heard on this critical issue. Thank you for your urgent attention.

Sincerely,
[Your name and district]

good afternoon, I am in hell
A white woman with straight brown hair in a yellow sweater is standing in front of a red background holding an iPad in one hand and pinching the hinge of her glasses in the other. Her mouth is open in an "o" shape and white text frames her face, slanted at an angle to match, which says "Twiliooooooo" as if her mouth were one of the o's and also the o's to the right of her mouth are all increasing in size for some reason. On the top right is the apparently cut-off text "Global Regulatory & Compli
Guide for Marketers"
It is possibly the worst gore-free image I've ever seen and you're very welcome for sharing it.

Honestly pretty happy with this quote I pulled together moments after learning about the Saturday bombings. I fear it will hold up much better than I'd like.
A screenshot from the linked article with highlighted text:

“Joining Israel’s unprovoked attacks on Iran will do nothing to make Americans, Jews, and/or Israelis safer,” said Grant in an email Saturday evening. “This entire campaign serves only to distract from the genocide in Gaza and the cratering popularity of first Benjamin Netanyahu, and now Donald Trump. We stand in solidarity with the people of Iran as we do those of Palestine and call for an end to this aggression.”

Yes, and the chance to think through those notes is a big part of how I learn from those meetings. Summarization isn't just shortening, it's a chance to synthesize knowledge for yourself and your team. Outsourcing this can rob you of something really valuable

'Asked to clarify whether the boycott included the beleaguered Microsoft Teams, Mohamed added that the overall goal is to boycott all Microsoft products, but he acknowledged that few people use some of the company’s trashier products of their own free will. "We are calling on everyone to boycott Microsoft products whenever feasible and possible. So, yes, boycott Microsoft Teams, too,” he said. “Although, I am not sure if anyone is using that willingly.” Drop Site could not independently verify whether anybody has ever used Teams willingly, though experts said it was unlikely.'

Oakland starting off strong for their "Horny at the Library" series
A screenshot from the Oakland Public Library site advertising an event. "Exhibit: Buster Crabbe Saves the City!"

In a black and white photo, Buster (who famously played Flash Gordon on screen) is a very handsome, athletic young white man wearing a form-fitting singlet posed in a crowded arena. If you can see the photo and you weren't previously bisexual, there's a decent chance you are now.
