RICK RUBIN on why Hollywood keeps making soulless movies: "So many big movies are just not good because they're being made by people trying to make something they think someone else is going to like. That's not how art works. That's commerce."

Good morning Bluesky.

Text:
"Do you have a magic spell to return someone to life?" she said.
"No," the witch said,"I'm sorry."
"Oh."
"Why don't you tell me about them?"
"Will that bring them back?"
"For us. For a little while. Stories are a different kind of magic. "

Mangekyo (kaleidoscope) furisode printed with fluorescent inks, by Japanese designer Aguri Sagimori.

$this striking furisode titled Mangekyō (万華鏡, "Kaleidoscope") represents an avant-garde fusion of traditional kimono tailoring and modern textile innovation. Renowned for her dark, romantic sensibility and frequent thematic exploration of delicate organic forms, Sagimori reinterprets the classic formal garment—defined by its long, sweeping sleeves—through a captivating play of luminescence and shadow. Set against a deep, light-absorbing black ground, the textile is printed with special UV-reactive and fluorescent inks that spring to life in low lighting, radiating electric hues of cyan, violet, neon pink, and chartreuse. The visual composition centers on a cascading motif of stylized butterflies (chō) and geometric floral petals arranged to mimic the mesmerizing symmetry of a kaleidoscope lens. In Japanese visual culture, the butterfly is a deeply symbolic motif historically associated with metamorphosis, seasonal renewal, and the fleeting nature of the soul. Here, Sagimori transforms the creature into a luminous optical spectacle: individual insects and shattered floral fragments appear to float, fracture, and reassemble across the dark silk drape as light catches the specialized pigments. The precision of the printing creates a vivid illusion of three-dimensional depth, wherein glowing cyan wings emerge from soft, dim violet shadows, echoing the shifting patterns created when rotating a kaleidoscope. Framed in quiet profile against a translucent backdrop of pastel floral curtains, the model's styling anchors the piece within contemporary Tokyo runway aesthetics. Adorned with a delicate face netting and a sculpted, modern ponytail, the silhouetted figure emphasizes the bold architectural drape of the extended sleeves. By replacing traditional gold-leaf embellishments (kinjiki) and hand-dyed yūzen techniques with high-tech fluorescent dyes, Sagimori bridges the gap between historical Japanese dress traditions and 21st-century material chemistry.$

Rest well Bluesky 💔 Look what we’re doing to our planet, we’re destroying the forests, we’re polluting the ocean, the air, the rivers, we are spraying poisonous chemicals on our food, with pesticides and herbicides.Younger generations look after this planet better than we, before it’s too late.

Best thing I’ve seen on FB in a long while…

Reminder that we live in a world where humpback whales lift other animals out of the water to protect them from predators, where crows hold funerals, where trees in drought send water through their roots to other struggling trees, where dolphins have names for each other, where sea otters hold hands when they sleep to stay connected and where a group of people sitting silently together in a state of love can measurably reduce violence in the city around them.

Every creature leaves a mark on the Earth. And humans? We leave behind plastic bottles, packaging, containers, and trash. The saddest part is that we are the only species that understands the damage—yet we keep doing it. Our footprint should be one of responsibility, not pollution.
