Ladies and gentlemen, this is DAD MODE. 🚖 Ship stuff with your voice from the car, the playground, in the grocery store.

Adding collaboration. Like git pull requests, but for spreadsheets
A screen showing two spreadsheets side by side. They are identical except for minor changes in one which are reflected in the other as a "proposal" which can be accepted, rejected, or commented on

1 million interdependent cells (about 33MB) in the browser with very high FPS. Gonna keep trying higher numbers until it breaks.

Microsoft had this very handy app for scanning documents called Lens. I use it for years. I refrained from updating the software version out of fear they would paywall it. Well, guess what, I accidentally updated.

I select "Light Mode" in Tahoe and the header "Appearance" fades away, while the Back/Forward buttons remain in dark mode. 👏

The slop is everywhere. Even Google with infinite budget can't make a dropdown work.

Usability ranting. You see, Apple isn't the design champion you'd expect it to be. How do I play this movie? No play button. The prominent button is iTunes Extras. Doesn't sound like what I want. This isn't even the iTunes app, this is TV.app. Oh I have to HOVER the thumbnail 💩

I think exponential growth is probably one of the biggest myths that people in technology believe. Most of the time the case is of an "S" curve (see image), which is just a very slow "switch", from off to on. Essentially a describing tech adoption and refining. LLMs will not be different.

Usability things. This cable you must lift, DO NOT PULL. The other cable you must pull, DO NOT LIFT. You must know these rules that no one told you about, otherwise you might break the equipment.

And other hardware keeps copying Apple because they assume that Apple must know what they're doing. Here's a simulation of me at night trying to find the headphone cable receptacle on the new Bose QC versus old Bose QC. Everyday I have this problem on the new. Never had on the old.

The edges of these receptacles are also too sharp. If they had smoothened the entrance a little bit, it would automatically guide the connector when you have small misalignments.

While we're at it. This corner is too sharp, it hurts my thumb. It's been like this for more than a decade already. Couldn't you smoothen it a tiny bit?

One would assume that after decades of tweaking the same hardware and software, the MacBook Pro would be great to use. Yet, this is what I get when I try to pin Airdrop in Finder on a MacBook Pro bought 4 days ago.

I should write a blog post on 100 different reasons why JSX is so bad. My list keeps growing... (Note: I fully understand the cause of the bug below. I just don't think this should be a gotcha to begin with)
Next.js error: React.Children.only expected to receive a single React element child.JSX code where a component called ExpectsASingleChild has two children, one of which is a Button, the other is a code comment

These are my colored e-ink computers I made for displaying weather and calendar. I bought them from pimoroni.com and coded it in Python. The idea was to "decentralize my phone", I got tired of having *everything* on the phone. These update once a day. I love it, been using them over a year.

Things RxJS excelled at already a decade ago, but the JS community is still scratching their heads about. This is just a trivial use of buffer() and animationFrames()

Some thoughts on Threads vs Twitter that I shared on Manyverse.
I'm not sure how I would frame it, but Threads not in EU is neither "good" nor "bad". It's fragmented. And there is already a subtle political fragmentation of this space: Republican and the right are fond of Twitter, and Democrat and progressives are fond of Threads.
From a "social network historian" perspective, this is also an extremely interesting period we live in, because we can't say we live in a centralized time anymore. There isn't a single place where you can go to spread your message to the world, except perhaps the web itself, because web links can be shared on any platform (we take this for granted, but interestingly, most other URIs of protocols other than http/https do NOT work on these platforms). In that sense, www is a lower-layer protocol on which these fragmented social networks base themselves on, not from a technological standpoint, but from a compatibility standpoint. The "interoperability" we want is not a horizontal one (e.g. ActivityPub), but a "V" shaped one.

I have always hated this diagram. Two reasons: (1) It attempts to rename a concept that has already been established in academia: "distributed" computing is very often the figure (b), (2) due to power law mechanics, (a) or (b) is almost always the case and I have never seen (c) in any network.
