I teach PE. There is lots of joy and laughter when playing sports and games! I also find that playing music in class brings a lot of joy. There’s something very connecting and memorable about watching teens do burpees to something silly like Baby Shark! 🤣

I have been working around the clock for the last 3 months, so over thanksgiving weekend I unplugged, relaxed with my family and didn’t get any work done. It was so wonderful. Now I have those normal Sunday scaries PLUS the stress of remembering all of the things I didn’t do that I should have!!!

These are just a few personal wins. As a teacher it has helped me think through my grading practices, redesign lessons and assessments, brainstorm, generate questions for students, add sentence frames and more… I’m also teaching a class outside of my normal content area so ChatGPT has been my coach!

It has helped me organize my thoughts, find the right words, and go deeper into my own thoughts. Reflecting, prompting ME with questions that make me think critically or see new perspectives… It has helped me get unstuck and even learn new things. Lots of potential harm, but also lots of benefits.

Honestly, Brisk does some handy things, and Google’s Gemini has some solid translation tools, but I wouldn’t overwhelm with tools and instead show what is possible with just a couple. Generating sentence frames, leveled or close readings, creating authentic assessments… Check out the DIESOL podcast!

Finally on Thanksgiving break! I still need to grocery shop, prep for Thanksgiving, clean the house, keep three kids from messing it up, keep them fed and entertained and then after Thanksgiving I need to catch up on work (if I can). I have SO much to be thankful for, but I need a REAL break.
