Vance is on his way to Fairbanks, Alaska next week. Presumably because R Senator Dan Sullivan is losing to D Mary Peltola.

James O’Keefe recently “proved” widespread election fraud to election deniers by coming to Alaska and going to polling places where he said he was Senator Lisa Murkowski’s bother (voter impersonation) but didn’t have his ID. They all gave him questioned ballots to fill out anyway!

I meant defeat, not defend, Ballot Measure 2 here in AK. It would repeal RCV, open primaries, and campaign finance disclosure.

I’m so sorry to report that this is not true. I’m in AK & fighting to defend another RCV repeal initiative here, but the exact same web of donors are running an Independent for US house & forced the progressive Dem out of the race. Those same donors support RCV & open primaries. It’s a mess.

You can get signs at the Coordinated Campaign office 625 4th Ave. (Not No on 2 signs, they won’t let us distribute them there 😂.)

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
But they don’t want us using 2024 signs for several reasons, none of which matter to normal people.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 03/09/2026
Support for RCV is ~ 50/50 in AK. Support for open primaries is ~ 70%. Support for campaign finance disclosure is ~94%. So the No on 2 campaign would always prefer to focus on that.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 01/09/2026
It may always have been the bigger deal to some, right? Scott Kendall led the original effort after Murkowski did not win the R primary.

I appreciate your repurposing of your 2024 No on 2 sign 😂. I’ve been distributing a few of those even though the official campaign is horrified/ said not to.

Yes, he’s getting an intense amount of pressure. But upholding RCV and pushing Peltola to the left are his goals. (I’ll rank him 2nd - many will.)

I now see you’ve addressed this in another response: the fringe candidate does not boost turnout in any meaningful way. The real risk here is lots of people lose enthusiasm for defending RCV when candidates drop out.
100
Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 30/08/2026
Does this account for a fringe candidate who will result in a not insignificant number of people voting at all? Here in AK they are pressing David Leslie (D but DSA) to drop from Senate race to not hurt Peltola. We think it might not cost, might help her or at least help down-ballot D’s.

I think we all know this (that RCV helped Mamdani) but especially in the scenario AK is in now re: the gubernatorial race, see how 56% of Lander’s voters ranked Mamdani, helping push M to a huge margin of victory www.nytimes.com/interactive/...

Ranked-Choice Voting Helped Mamdani Score a Decisive Primary Win (Published 2025)
The primary results show that voters and campaigns are becoming more sophisticated in how they use ranked-choice voting.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
NYT: voters are getting more sophisticated w/ RCV. “Mamdani ultimately benefited more from ranked choices, especially after his cross-endorsement with Brad Lander, the city comptroller who finished third.”

But were you able to see that the 20% was evenly split x the political spectrum regardless of the candidate options? Or did educated liberals bullet vote when they had no good option and rank when they could?

I’m a huge defender of RCV, it is way better, but I don’t think it solves the overarching issue of unlimited spending in campaigns. And some of the same big $ supporting RCV also attack Dem candidates they dont like. insideelections.com/untangling-t...

I mean, they did and I’m a huge Schultz fan, but Bill Hill is a legit great guy (it is a very small state, lots of my friends know him), just politically milk toast.

I loved it too and am going to check out the podcast series! When it’s the immediate “# yrs in AK” I call it “sourdough status-off”. I’d say Tom def. does not lean into it. I did curse that you caused me to watch that Al Gross ad. 😳

I don’t think he will but as far as I know he could. He won’t for the same reasons he suspended: he cannot afford to quit his job / health care and the Dem establishments are not willing to support him.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
I’m going with it’s impossible to know the savviest strategy so sticking w/ “vote with your heart in the primary and your head in the general”. That said, I’m terrified of a Wilson win.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 14/08/2026
B/c Matt Schultz only suspended his campaign & is still on the primary ballot here in AK - lots of us are voting for him 👊. I see people from MT (my home state) saying ranked choice voting would avoid all this. RCV is great but can’t overcome the PACs.

Vs Tom and JKT, who have kept it very positive/ respectful/ promised to support each other … other than JKT’s clear and persistent insinuation that Tom’s a boomer and the cool kids are all done with all boomers. There’s lots more, but that’s the gist.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
I totally supported Meta but feel like she’s not running to win but other good causes, which is fine. Then I learned that her lieutenant gov never even paid attention to politics before, which is lame. Then I saw her go negative on JKT and Begich in a comment on Facebook and lost a lot of respect :(
110
Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
When Tom was the guest, he was also super friendly and got all the depth of policy across. Also, I see JKT’s big Anthropic AI employee donations as whatever, but dumb that he knew and didn’t disclose until July.

Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
Then I listened / compared them both as guests on the Landmine Radio (Jeff Landfield). JKT seemed to be trying to run on being a cool young hip bro. (WHY? I like his nerdy smart true self better??)
120
Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
Early on, both were guests on this long-running weekly meeting of senior Fairbanks alternative energy/ housing/ policy people & Begich conversed on ALL the nerdy topics for 1.5 hrs and only left because he had to. When JKT was the guest, everyone ran out of conversation after 30 minutes. Meh.
110
Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
I also love how Tom elevates his fabulous lieutenant Governor candidate, Julia Hnilicka, and I think it’s really weird that JKT is not only not running as a team with his, but doesn’t even mention him in his recent letter!
120
Stacey A. Fritz @staceyfritz.bsky.social · 12/08/2026
I think JKT is a super brilliant policy wonk and hard worker etc. etc., but I think Begich would make a much better Governor due to his experience with so much community and justice work all over the state.

That’s not right. Our 2022 senate election was with RCV. Also we don’t rank in the “pick one” primary. The top 4 advance, and we rank in the general.

Since early voting for the AK primary starts today, I'll share some of the reasons why I'm voting for Tom Begich in the primary. And I'll start w/ the most personal, since everyone can look at campaign websites & materials, APOC reports, etc., but not everyone has met all 3 left-of-center candidates
Me photographed from the back (photo credit: Ida Luna) wearing light colored jeans and a yellow Tom Begich for Governor t-shirt. I also have on teal trade beads from Nenana (Lt. Gov candidate Julia Hnilicka's home community). I am standing in front of a lawn with houses in the background. While we hate that there’s yet another reason to protest, there was a great turnout, nice sunshine, great support for the public, and impressive snow berms here in Fairbanks at Democracy Corner last weekend.
People at a demonstration against the war on Iran on a snowy corner in Fairbanks with signs that say “stop TRUMP, no forever wars”, and “no war for oil” The photo is across a icy, busy intersection in Fairbanks, Alaska showing about 50 people standing on the sidewalkand snow berms and at what we call “Democracy Corner” with big banners and signs signs protesting the war on Iran.

I have been so curious and confused since I read that story. Calista led the study but dropped their effort because it’s only feasible with a gas line. Comments said duh, it’s for mining all Alaska’s minerals. Why are there only 4 Yukon communities (the “BASH communities”) that would have access?
