Her candidness was maybe, just maybe a Louise thing lol. Also, another favorite Nobel Prize winning moment: Kahneman in 2002! He was reflecting on his academic friendship with Tversky.

When I was still on the other platform, what I used to do on this day every year was to retweet, “Hey, Jules. It’s Brian.” Hearing the audio of this call at the museum broke my heart. Thinking about all the lives lost and the families they’ve left behind.

Learned that many are now getting into mahjong? Great! Pls do it with your grandparents! It helps with cognitive health. My childhood was mostly playing with neighbors as my grandma was having mahjong sessions with 3 of her friends. Inevitably, I was raised to be a mahjongera & always will be lol

Was backpacking there a few years ago. Bought a book about Burmese tales and legends but also accidentally dropped my copy of Picasso and the Painting That Shocked the World somewhere near the vegan restaurant lol.

That Friday rain was wild. Zero visibility. Took the wrong bus. Got drenched, and this happened to my annotations lol.

Learned from my students that Night is not a required reading in all American high schools, and I honestly think it should be.

July five yrs ago was when social realist Neil Doloricon died. He served as Dean of the UP College of Fine Arts. We worked on a huge project for the university yrs before & he remembered. Saw a gallery selling his linocut relief prints to support other artists during the pandemic, so I reached out.

Who’s gonna write one for swimming? Could be Rowdy Gaines, Mel Stewart, Kyle Sockwell or me lol. Made me think of moments that made me say “God I fucking love swimming!!!” Like Ledecky in Kazan ALL OF IT. DiRado in Rio for the 200 back. That fr relay in Beijing we still couldn’t stop talking about.

Almost the end of glorious June, the birth month of the bestest people lol. Finished this today. Took a while cause I had to take down notes. Also prioritized five non-academic books in between lol. I know it looks worn precisely because it has been read, stapled, annotated & filled with marginalia.

Summer means reading for leisure. Picked this up cause the reporting Theo did on Stanford President MTL was huge a few years back. Also interested cause I’ve spent most of my career with people of Theo’s age.

This rose that matches my dress, if you could see it lol. Took the time out the first of June to watch baseball. Home court (dis)advantage as everyone in our team ended up choking. Still a lovely time though.

The powerful and corrupt tend to forget that tables turn. May they be punished to the fullest extent of the law. From Pat Evangelista’s Some People Need Killing which I immediately read when it got out in 2023.

Gonna teach about cancer this fall. I forgot how much of a page-turner this book was when I read it years ago. Active (re-)reading because you have to teach about the topic is just different, and probably always better.

What’s not to love? It’s cursive and purple. I write in cursive. My room back home has been purple for the past 15 years, a decision my late grandma & I made (a year before she passed) because we love purple. Also, I always order with ube foam, because duh, I know my ube loljk.

A day late but a happy happy birthday to my doxle Tiffy, the sweetest, most loyal girl in the world. Who knew mixing two hounds would be this cute? This was her first visit to the vet. She’s 10 now. ᜋᜑᜎ ᜈ ᜋᜑᜎ ᜃᜓ ᜐᜒᜌ

Babysat for my friend as she had her stitches removed. Had sung all the possible nursery rhymes in my arsenal. What surprised me most was I could still sing A You’re Adorable B You’re So Beautiful C You’re a Cutie Full of Charm from start to finish lol.

Five great grandkids in the 14 years she’s been gone. She would have doted so well on them, taught them mahjong, tracked all the sacraments for them to have. She would have been snowbirding to be with the four for half of the year & with Sisi for summer & fall. Wish they’ve met her. We miss her!

Another pic with my AirPods in the baño cause what is there to fear? Lol. Also, I’ve really decided to disable interactions on my Bluesky cause I’m not here for attention & likes (though people can still do this, I think). I’m here cause I just wanna shout into the void. That’s all tysm.

It was such a great day for a dual meet, the first of the year with World Champs and Olympians swimming in my neck of the woods. I missed that DJ who’d play a rotation of crank that, eenie meenie, and baby though, like he was nicely stuck in the mid to late oughts lol.

Was a great mass. Several women of different ages were in mantilla? The last time I wore one was first communion. No one’s really veiling at my local church.

Random: maybe it’s just preference, but I love my relatively thin lips. Even dated a guy who has thin lips, they kinda disappear when he smiles or laughs, and they’re honestly the cutest thing. So to anyone, don’t let social media tell you your thin lips aren’t beautiful. They are.

Told them months ago that they had A’s on their foreheads, so they did bring their A game all the time. I had no choice but to also bring mine lol. Done with all my teaching tasks. Now it’s time for armchair swimming at the US Open.

I greet my Jewish mentor a Happy Birthday every Thanksgiving week. I have 2 copies of Einstein’s Dreams, this & the one he sent to my apartment along w/ other books last year. In 2017, I told him I read the book the first time when I was 18, it was my roommate’s copy. Grateful for this mentorship!

I still haven’t figured out gifting for babies. My friend’s daughter is 8 months old & this is what I got for her. I think Cal the Palm Pal works cause it’s a sensory plushie w/ upper part that’s soft & lower part that’s made of pellets. As for the book, I just think she’ll grow up to understand it.
