since everyone's talking about Halo CE I felt nostalgic so here's a thread of assorted print media screenshots of the game from back when it came out.

I crave for the Halo CE aesthetic. Please. If anyone knows of other artists who fit that let me know!! I’m currently trying to practice with my artwork and would love to lean towards that early 2000’s cyber/scifi! #haloce #halo #cyber #y2k #digitalart #gaming

Zoom and discussion about the inspiration and context behind the piece, as per usual ⚔️

zoom into the piece quoted, focus being on Wreg's chest wound

inspiration:
“Miri it is while sumer ilast with fugheles song, oc nu neheth windes blast and weder strong”
This is part of this amazing rendition by Ensemble belladonna, Susanne Ansorg & Miriam Andersén. It’s an old lament for how short and sweet summer is – I also like to read it as lament for romantic love, and the disappointments in it.

Lempo is an old Finnish god – often depicted as a malevolent spirit and later with Christianity connected with Satan. There’s reason to believe that Lempo was actually also a god of love – although the depictions in details vary a lot. Sometimes love could turn into devilish Lempo inside a person, or that love itself is unpredictable, violent, and somewhat scary like Lempo.

Arrow: Wreg is pulling out an arrow out of his chest – often spirits/gods of love are depicted to have some sort of hunting equipment. Cupid famously, but some texts suggest Lempo also having arrows (evil ones lol – I wonder how much of the demonization is due to Christian mysticism of old religion).

Wounds: Only one is clearly visible, but Wreg actually has two fresh ones and three fading scars around his ribs. As a man who loves love and gives his affections freely, I thought he’d also be expert in feelings of disappointment. Especially as a queer guy, who falls in love often with people who’ll never know of his affections. It’s up him alone to tend to wounds no one even knew where there in the first place. It’s also up to him pull the arrows out himself, no one else can help him.

Leaves: Those are broadleaf plantain! They are commonly known to be used for treating various ailments, but especially wounds. In the zoom it’s more visible, but they are stained with blood, or rather that the wounds they are covering are bleeding through the delicate leaves.

A zoom-in of Wreg's lower body, showcasing his hunting horn and codpiece

Hunting horn: In media and religion love is often depicted with theme around hunter and prey, and the person falling in love being completely lacking agency and power to do anything about it. Here I wanted to include a detail that twist that narrative a little. There’s an element of powerlessness yes, Wreg is clearly in pain – HOWEVER he is the one holding a hunting horn. He himself willingly calls shots on himself, willingly takes the arrows, and willingly takes them out and heals then wounds when the time comes. He’s a man who wants to love, even if that means suffering and pain.

codpiece: idk I really like codpieces

Was initially just going to be a little study but I drew Marie weirdly small on the surface so thought I might as well add a background haha #Peripeteia

Marie sitting on a skyscraper roof vent, a cityscape bending around her in the background. She is smoking a cigarette and holding a Mosin Nagant

Going to shift away from doing more Marathon inspired art. The fact this damn company still steals people’s art is just appalling, and I don’t really want to keep supporting people who let something like this even happen in the first place. I’ll be continuing my art for my “GODLESS” project asap^^

Ive thought about trying out doing commissions for the first time recently. Ive had some people ask if I ever would in the future, but I just don’t know. My brain makes me feel like it would be weird to charge people for my art… #commissions #art #digitalart #transart #pixelart

Knight and the enemy within [ #art | #ttrpg | #oc ]

knight oc Wreg holding his one-handed sword to his inner thigh, the blade almost ready to puncture the white fabric of his trousers. His outer layers, belt and armor pieces are falling off, and his upper torso is bare. Only half of his face can be seen, looking stern. Background is dark, with illustrated rose thorns and blood drops.

I originally drew this thinking of crews that would come down and clean up the runners bodies when there would be too many. I feel like over time you’d have just mountains of bodies down there littering Tau Ceti IV. #marathon #marathonthegame #bungie #art #digitalart @marathonthegame.bungie.net
