In my company, I am the person accountable for the correctness of docs to customers, i'm reaching the point where im about to ban engineers from writing docs. It's always subtly wrong (and ofc terriblly AI written) so i spend more time editing and verifying than i would have spent on writing it

hey is it good that the software they're making me use for immigration application has two separate typos and one sentence, and doesn’t have the concept of non-requires fields (so i have to fill out end date for my current job)
Question on immigration form: "Have you taken a test from IELTS, CELPIP, TEL, or TCF to assess your proficincy (sic) in English or Fench (sic)?"

This post is a great encapsulation why I hope to quit tech forever soon. It's supposed to be reductio ad absurdum for an anti-LLM argument, and in the meantime I'm sitting here like "...yes, this but unironically?.." Very alienating.

when i complain about my immigration problems i always feel a little bit like this picture, like sure it's a big problem for me personally but in the grand scheme of things etc etc and then i remember there literally *is* a war in my country that's like the whole problem
It's a meme with a girl from some tv show looking at you condescendingly and saying "i just want to tell you that some people have war in their countries"

there's a new JCO post going around, so i thought y'all might enjoy this absolutely freak shit i saw at the Broad museum in LA yesterday
A museum case filled with, i guess, plastic cutouts?... of stylized human hair, face, legs etc. All parts somewhat resemble National Book Prize winner Joyce Carol Oates. There's a description next to the case, which is transcribed in the next photo.Description of a museum case:

Robert Therrien working stencils, drawings, cutouts, and photographs, n.d.
Wood, metal, plastic, and paper
Robert Therrien Estate
The character of Joyce appears more frequently in Therrien's archive and sketchbooks than in his completed work. Named for Therrien's admiration of the novels of contemporary writer Joyce Carol Oates, the figure was formed initially through the combination of various PLOT-O stencils (seen in a nearby case). The artist spent years investigating the two- and three-dimensional potential of Joyce, producing sketchbooks, drawings, and sculptures in a dizzying array of materials and sizes.

when your main problem with harry potter is that they might have used AI for the poster
It's a poster promoting HP and the deathly hallows audio book, with some Art depicting some characters, and someone circled one of the characters with a sharpi and wrote "AI slop?"

I think park of the reason for the Court st bike lane freakout is that is makes parking MUCH more visible. We've been conditioned to ignore curbside parking, but when it's pulled out like this, it becomes clear how ugly it is. Like I had a visceral reaction to this ugliness today.

Two posts:
First post: a venn diagram of blockchain, "gen ai" (in quotes) and senior software engineer. Blockchain circle is "still searcjing for a use case:. "Gen AI" circle is "still searching for a business model". Senior SWE circle is "still searching for a semicolon". The intersection of blockchain and senior swe is "falsely believes logic can solve human disputes". Blockchain and "gen ai" is "massively overhyped". "Gen AI" and senior swe: writes buggy code. Triple intersection is "technically just a slow database".

Second post:
Gen AI = A bunch of IF statements.

Software engineers good at writing IF statements

my favorite genre of linkedin post "zero self-awareness"
I just scored a 43% on my midterm at Berkeley, and it was an A (minus).

Grade deflation at colleges across the world is a real phenomena, and honestly, traditional methods of studying are outdated. You never hear a college student say "I just read a textbook for 3 hours and it was fun!"

Here is the best hack for studying in a more fun and productive way:

Tell ChatGPT what you are learning in class. Use the voice feature to explain the concept to GPT, and ask it to interrupt you whenever you go wrong. They say the best way to learn is to teach!
