After having this I probably will at least have to get an e-bike back in the US because I can't go from this to defaulting back to a car for every single thing.

Exactly one more week in Portugal. Sad to leave, even if I won't miss the stress of uncertainty. It's been so nice to have somewhere walkable. Wish it hadn't been two of the most turbulent years of my life so we could have traveled more, but the experience really was great.

I don't know what the hell Google did to the YouTube app that it does shit like this on my tablet but it's been months now with videos jumping around, not being there when I scroll back up, just completely broken.

Goal was primarily just to give it more "meat" for Google. It was just a single Claude coded landing page before this.

Was a fun project. I like putting together websites for people. I did the entire layout in WordPress with a theme, customized it all (including custom layouts) based on their needs, and set up the contact form for email inquiries.

I think about YouTube a lot these days. Just as I much about websites back during Fanbyte. I like understanding what's going on in the ecosystem, but it sucks that there are no guardrails for this.

None of this is never not harmful. At best its stealing opportunities from people you're pretending to be. And usually it's full of misinformation. youtu.be/AQKJDWtO2yA?...

yeah. wonder if this will hold true on YouTube in the coming years too. know they're experimenting with AI there as well. thankfully on that front I've already pivoted to personality and quality editing and "feel" so I'm relatively safe from any AI nonsense as long as people can find me

Maybe the answer is that the IGNs and such will do it because they have such a large built in audience and Google will either take it from them or make a deal? It's just such a strange situation.
100
Dillon Skiffington @squiblon.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Yeah it's totally fair. I just wonder what will happen when, for example, everyone stops writing basic video game guides because there's no monetary gain, and Google then has nothing to cite, no answer.

It's not anything new to see short term profits put above long term health, but regardless of how traditional media deals with it, my brain can't help but want to see the results of Google doing something that threatens the very thing that sustains it.
100
Dillon Skiffington @squiblon.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
Maybe it won't. Maybe it'll get by on brand deals or whatever (ugh).

I agree with you. I don't know how to word this well. I just don't know how long Google can continue to do this before the effects of the whole open and free internet thing starts to negatively impact their own AI overviews.

Dillon Skiffington @squiblon.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
I do feel like there is a "good" team at Google that actually cares about proper rankings. It was just corrupted in 2019 with their whole Code Yellow deal and now they're adding the AI Overview team on top of it. www.wheresyoured.at/the-men-who-...

meanwhile the team responsible for setting guidelines that Google reliant sites have to follow... Google's AI overviews explicitly break these exact guidelines. Love to see it. lilyraynyc.substack.com/p/prediction...

On October 1, Google updated its guidance on using generative AI content. It now reads:

“It is critical to manually factcheck and review all AI-generated content for accuracy and trustworthiness before publishing.”

The same review applies to titles, meta descriptions, structured data, and image alt text. As Barry Schwartz pointed out, “critical” is a word Google rarely uses in its documentation. The page also now points readers to the sections of the quality rater guidelines on scaled content abuse and on content made with little to no effort or originality.2. Google defined “main content” and what makes it good
This same week, Google added a new section to Creating helpful, reliable, people-first content, the document I’ve long considered the clearest explanation of what Google’s systems are trying to reward. It says the quality of the main content is “one of the most critical factors” for assessing page quality, and lists 4 things raters are trained to look for: effort, originality, talent or skill, and accuracy.

The definition of effort is the part that should worry anyone scaling content with AI:

“...using generative AI to produce large amounts of text without manual oversight or curation represents little to no effort.”

The accuracy bar is also higher for YMYL topics, where content “must be highly accurate and consistent with established expert consensus.”

I give it one more year before Google has to admit it can't keep doing this
A Microsoft document recognizes that nobody wins that contest: "Our AI content strategy has started a 'doom loop' that will hurt the performance of our models and the entire web at the same time: It is highly unusual that an end-product threatens the economic foundations of its essential suppliers, but that is the situation we have created for our LLM business with respect to its 'content supply chain.'"

Find it funny that in the first season with the new Chase, nascar said in 95% of their simulations someone in the top 6 won the championship. And of course the 7th seed immediately runs away with things and threatens to prove them wrong.

FIA STATEMENT
ON THE FORMATION LAP AHEAD OF THE BAHRAIN GRAND PRIX IN MALAYSIA, AN UNPRECEDENTED COMBINATION OF LOW ENGINE SPEED, LOW-GRIP CONDITIONS, WET-WEATHER ENERGY MANAGEMENT SETTINGS AND THE SEPANG CIRCUIT'S SECTOR CONFIGURATION LED TO AN UNINTENDED LOSS OF POWER FOR A NUMBER OF CARS.
AS A RESULT, THE FIA TECHNICAL DEPARTMENT REMOVED THE ENERGY LIMIT CONSTRAINT IN THE AFFECTED SECTORS THROUGH AN UPDATED SOFTWARE RELEASE DISTRIBUTED TO ALL COMPETITORS DURING THE RACE DELAY CAUSED BY HEAVY RAIN ENABLING TEAMS TO MAKE THE NECESSARY CHANGES TO THE POWER UNIT BEFORE THE START OF THE RACE.
THIS ISSUE HAD NOT BEEN DETECTED BY THE FIA OR THE TEAMS DURING TESTING OR DURING THE LAPS TO THE GRID. THE FIA, TOGETHER WITH THE TEAMS AND POWER UNIT MANUFACTURERS, WILL UNDERTAKE A FULL REVIEW OF THE ISSUE.

One day we will have wet weather in these cars. One day.
000
Dillon Skiffington @squiblon.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Reports are basically this is a huge issue with the regs. Drive too slowly and the turbo spools down and it relies on the battery but since the FIA control battery deployment the second you run out the car will no longer go until its rebooted. So now the FIA is emergency patching the software.

so the Cloudpunk team made a game where you just get to live in cyberpunk? like manage a restaurant, get a boat and go fishing, decorate your own home and shit. store.steampowered.com/app/1488490/...
A vibrant, cyberpunk-style noodle bar at night with glowing neon signs and orange striped awnings. An older man with a long white beard, an eyepatch, and an apron stands in a neon-lit futuristic diner. A dialogue box indicates his name is Thaddeus Carminus and presents two dialogue choices to the player.A boat sits docked in front of a towering, pixelated cyberpunk city structure built directly above dark, reflective water. A lively night scene shows patrons dining outdoors at Ramen Noir in the cyberpunk life-simulation game Nivalis Nights.
