Yeah…I guess this hit my feed because I’m in a unique position to comment: I am a long-term ADHD patient who happens to research Crohn’s disease professionally. As you say, they are in no way equivalent or connected.

Yeah, w/o extraordinary evidence it’s kind of difficult to see this as anything but slop/bs.

Freddie plays the tuba. That's the post. [NOTE: none of that LLM bull-pucky here: image is clumsily selected, cut, and layered in Pixelmator like the Ancestors taught us]
A very silly, poorly shooped image of a tan dog to make it look like she's playing the tuba. Not generated by prompting a fancy auto-correct.

Saw this a few years ago at the National Museum of Natural History. Still can't decide if it's a sublime commentary on a fundamental challenge facing multicellular organisms or the product of an intern taking a silly joke a wee bit too far. #inandout #imeanthatis
A graphic from an exhibit at the National Museum of Natural History. It shows a side view of a dinosaur, with a cartoonish gut tube drawn over it, labeled "digestive tract." Said digestive tract has "in" and "out" points helpfully labeled.

Ohkaaaaay…I have to ask. What’s with this thing (possibly new, possibly I just finally noticed) where people are bagging up their dog’s poop, but then leaving the bag next to the sidewalk? Seeing it a lot lately. I mean, you already did the hard part!!! Why not finish the job?!?

Ridiculously good deal on a really enjoyable book! Was more than worth it at full price—for two bucks it's a no-brainer buy.

RIDICULOUS. If you painted this everyone would say you have no idea what a dog's tongue looks like. In a movie, they would say it was crap CGI. And yet this is the reality.
A honey-hued medium dog with an outrageous tongue flapping out as she stares at her ball, which is behind the camera and held aloft for flinging.

...and just to be clear: yes, of course my personal brain chemistry means that other people's noises in public spaces frequently make me exhausted and unhappy. But I'll be damned if I'm going to shame or blame a baby who can't help it or an exhausted parent who can't control it.

Ran into this IRL on a flight. When queried, Yelling Guy admitted to being a neurotypical "trying to help." Enjoyed saying "thanks but I can speak for myself, unlike...A BABY?" Ostentatiously took my meds (luckily it was time), switched seats with him and played with the baby all flight. Fun times!

100% this—citing w/o reading is scientific malpractice. If you don't climb up on their shoulders, you cannot claim to have seen farther [yes, I'm fully aware that the metaphor rests on a catty insult, but the point still stands].

The wily predator of the living room jungle stalks the landscape of piled-up squishies, waiting for the opportunity to pounce. Or nap. Yeah, probably nap. But there COULD be pouncing, mind you. There. Could. Be. Pouncing.
A light brownish, short-haired dog with alert ears and a ridiculous underbite sits on a beanbag, which sits on another beanbag, which sits on a chair. The whole thing looks more precarious than it probably is.

It's like people forgot that the point of a citation is "Hey, that thing I just said is true? Other people did the experiment to show it's true, and here's the evidence" or similar.
010
Mark Frey @squeakyanimal.bsky.social · 17/05/2026
The rise of what I call "vibe citing" in the last 15 years—i.e, an author does a quick search, sees some familiar words in title or abstract, and goes with it as a citation—is a real cancer on the literature and IMO opened the door to people just asking LLMs to provide refs.

Gen X moment: I used to pass a person who looks like someone I know in the airport, then get an uncomfortable feeling of “oh crap what if that WAS them and I just blew them off?” These days, the uncomfortable feeling is “oh crap, no, that’s what they looked like 20 years ago” 😬

Violent disassembly at the elevator: apparently even my badge clip is upset with the state of the world today. It decided to channel those feelings into performance art.
An image on the left captioned "how it started" shows the author's work ID on a retractable badge clip. On the right captioned "how it's going" is the badge attached to a clip that broke in an exciting way, propelled by the spring ribbon that used to retract the badge.

A few have suggested that some aspects of this mission--joy, international teamwork, diversity--are being played up to stick it to the hateful attitude of the administration. But I don't think it's that. I think it's just that those things are essential to and inseparable from a mission like this.

Yeah. When I review, my last step (every time) before submitting is to read the review and imagine what I'd think as an author if I received it. Then I modify if needed. It's not foolproof but if more people did this I think it would be a big improvement.
