It's time for a good stretch! Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #WingsOpenNotFlying, this #mallard is just starting to shake water from its wings. #photography #bird

A female mallard on greenish pond water. Its wings are partly opened, a few drops of water can be seen.

Oh, this is cool. See these "stuttering" repetitions in the green background? That's what happens when you try to track a moving object while having a visual stabilizer engaged. It tries its best to get in your way in these situations. Haven't seen it this pronounced before. #photography

Blurry picture of a group of greylag geese against a green forest background. Strange distortions in the green highlight the workings of an optical stabilizer.

A tiny splash of blue can't hurt, can it? European #magpie for today’s #BirdOfTheDay theme #Black&White #photography #bird

On a grey day, a european magpie on a grey flat roof walks towards the edge. The left side of the picture is the magpie with parts of the roof, the right side is devoid of any features.

No cheating. Share the last photo of the sky from your camera roll

Low sun over a river. Low in the foreground a rocky, almost black shore, some silhouettes of birds against the reflection of a light golden sun in the river. The shadow of hills are cast over the remote part of the river, then the hills, almost in black with hints of houses and a tree line. Above all that the sun behind a streaky cloud cover, lighting up the whole sky.

Another #hibiscus blooms, a red one this time. The structure of the inner stem (no idea what's that called) is quite different from the previous one. #photography #flower #bloom

The bloom of a red hibiscus fills almost all of the frame. The background is unstructured light to deep blue.
The lighting creates various deep shadows cast by different parts of the bloom onto itself.

Doesn't this white wagtail look happy? #BirdOfTheDay theme is #BestOfTheMonth. I did not find too many good #bird #photography moments this month. But this is so far the best picture of a #whitewagtail I have taken, so it's the obvious choice for me.

Close-up on some beige rocks in water. A white wagtail is walking from left to right. It's open beak suggests happy anticipation.

Move very slowly and no-one will see you... A #GreyHeron being inconspicuous. For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme #EFG. #photography #bird

A grey heron pictured from its left side. It is lit from its right and behind, letting the outline shine a bit. The bird stands with its right leg on a thin branch of a birch tree, the left leg is lifted in a slow and deliberate way. The background is blurry green outlines of trees and shrubs.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Redheads Two #woodpeckers chased each other through a dead tree. I thought these were great spotted woodpeckers, but looking at pictures in Wikipedia makes me doubt that now. However, red on the head #photography #birds

A shot up a dead, barkless tree, lit with dappled sunlight. The lower part is more in the shadows, where a woodpecker clings to the stem, looking up to another woodpecker. The second sits on higher up on a sunlit branch and is looking down.

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme of #LightAndShadow I just took so many pictures today, I'll throw in another #mallard, a male this time. In this picture the bird is not solely responsible for the shadows #photography #bird #duck

At an artificial pond, the water surface is to the left in shadows, the containing wall is in the center of the picture going from bottom to top left in a curve. On the wall a male mallard stands, dipping its bill into the water to drink. To the right some grass is seen. The bid is lit from its behind, leaving the body quite well lit, the neck and head is in the shadows. The orange feet are quite pronounced.

For today's #BirdOfTheDay theme, #lightandshadow, I'd like to submit this picture from this afternoon. This #mallard was caught in a public park. Is #MallardMonday still a thing? #photography #birds #duck

A female mallard in an artificial pond. The walls of the pond are behind it, with grass filling up the rest. The bird shakes its wings to fling off the water, which flies away in glistening drops.
The bird is seen from its right side, the light comes from its left front. The wings are brightly lit, letting the sun shine through, the rest of the bird is in shadow.

The weather here can sometimes create really interesting light. #photography #street

Portrait orientation picture of a street. The sun is rather low and quite golden, not seen, but reflected in the wet tarmac of the street. On the street, painted in white, also reflecting the sunset, are arrows pointing towards the viewer yet slightly to the right. The street goes over a hill crest, in the close distance, it appears below the view line. Up the hill on our left comes a car, the headlights barely shine over the crest. On the right a bus starts to disappear, the rear lights are just over the crest.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #BirdyLongLegs, birds with legs that look too long for its body. I caught this #greyheron landing yesterday. One of the best poses to showcase their legs. #photography #bird

Stoney shore of a river. The rocks are tan and rather brightly lit. In the background the surface of the river reflects a rather light sky.
Left on the shore 2 gulls stand on the rocks. In the middle a grey heron is coming in for a landing. Wings spread wide, legs stretched out in anticipation of ground contact.

Today’s #BirdOfTheDay alt theme is #Black; any bird with black plumage. A eurasian #coot looking somewhat surprised. #photography #bird

A shady part of a pond, some beige, well-lit twigs are seen in the background and reflected in the surface. A eurasian coot stands, body pointed towards the viewer, the head turned to its right. The sun is low and lights the bird from our right. The head is turned such that the red eye and the light-colored beak are still lit from the sun, the rest is in shadows.

#BirdOfTheDay theme is #Coastal&River #Barnacle #Geese are coastal #birds, they shouldn't be here in this small town park hundreds of kilometers from the coast. #photography #goose

A shady picture of 2 barnacle geese. One in the lower right corner, looking into the camera, another in the middle, further in the back, is looking away.
The ground is park grass, relatively short, with a tarmac footpath going diagonally from bottom left to top right, where the path meets a park bench. From there the path goes almost horizontally back to the left top corner of the picture.

The goose in the middle seems to look like it would like to cross the road, and it's looking if traffic comes from its right.

#BirdOfTheDay theme is #StrikeAPose - birds caught in a particularly photogenic pose. This #coot gave me a number of nice poses. #photography #bird

A Eurasian Coot standing in shallow water. The surface rather calm, reflecting some twigs of the surrounding vegetation as well as parts of the coots legs.
The body of the bird is pointed almost directly towards the lens, the head is turned to its left side. The sun comes from low on our right, shining directly into the face of the bird. Its right eye can be seen and is very red.

In orange, diffuse light, an Egyptian Goose gosling stands on small rocks. It is seen from its right behind, spreading its wings like an early attempt at flight. The plumage is mostly downs, there are no flight feathers yet.
The head of the gosling looks sideways into the camera, seemingly strained and annoyed.

The sun is in the middle, not nearly at the horizon. Before the sun dark clouds in bands obscure the very orange sun.

Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #RunningFromTheLaw, any bird that is moving fast on land or water. This #egyptiangoose was very much in a hurry. No idea what evil deed it is running from. #photography #goose #bird

Light blue sky is reflected in the surface of a river. A few bigger rocks, almost white can be seen.
An Egyptian Goose is in the center right, seen from its rear right, maybe just having cleared the water to fly away. To its left splashes of water suggesting it hit the water with its feet several time in order to get airborne.
