I'm not sure the Hugging Face incident isn't still a reflection, just a bit more complex. We certainly aren't to the point of sentience yet. I'm not saying we won't get there, just not quite yet. Of course, I've read enough science fiction to know that it could happen at any moment 😁

Oh certainly. The idea that "we can save storage by not backing up the dev environments" is certainly a choice. I worked at one place that literally decided we shouldn't back them up because if we lose them, and I quote, "oh well".
