The letter commisioning this has a great line which is even more pertinant in an age of AI generative art "It must be admitted that, for all the giant technical advances of recent years, one cannot always expect the level of individual craftsmanship that we took for granted, say, twenty years ago!"
31 October 1975
Dear Mr. Games,
This is to confirm our telephone talk when you were kind enough to say that you would like to do a 'Zoo' poster for us, for 1976.

The text will be:
LONDON ZOO, Regent's Park.
Go by <roundel>. Underground to Baker Street, then bus 74

We need a gay, colourful and light-hearted poster with the message integrated with the design. I would suggest that we try not to complicate it too much, partly because our Chairman is a great believer in classic simplicity, and partly because, although we fight to maintain standards, it must be admitted that, for all the giant technical advances of recent years, one cannot always expect the level of individual craftsmanship that we look for granted, say, twenty years ago!
We need to show something to our masters in early January, so we ought to have the 'Zoo' in the bag by aid-December.
Thank you for undertaking this. We very much look forward.
Yours sincerely,

Michael Levey

Letter; from Michael Levey to Abram Games discussing Zoo poster, 31 October 1975
Reference number	2006/15256
Description
Typed letter from assistant publicity officer to artist confirming that he will be doing the 'Zoo' poster and what text should be included in the design. He makes some suggestions referring to colour and simplicity. He hints at a timeline for the posters completion and thanks the artist for agreeing to undertake the project.
