Best piscene wyvern, and that’s coming g from someone who really likes most of them (except Lavasioth) He has such a sharp and edgy design but it dosent feel overdone or nonsensical since it fits the animal it’s based on. Plus I have to praise the effects on his fight——

Honestly as a monster I’m not really a big fan of Arkveld or Guardian Arkveld. He’s the worst case of “how can this thing fly” of any monster. Plus the chain whips feel way to quick and fluid However as a story character I think Guardian Arkveld is amazing. The story is Nata is amazing and——

I think he’s pretty neat. Probably my least favorite of the three lords. I don’t think the gathering of qurio quest is as amazing as everyone says but it’s still great. His scales look weirdly metallic and robotic which probably was intentional but I don’t really like it, especially the tail——

But now that leaves the issue with these three, they are the only ones with no wing fingers. However all of them have very similar beak, head, and body shapes which leads me to believe that they are all closely related and that losing the finger is a shared trait

So now we go onto the bird endemic life and while they all look way more "normal" bird like. they all have the very clear sign of being wyverns, which is the wing claw. I'm now gonna show all of them to prove this.

Normally in birds their "wing fingers" aren't visible as they are covered in feathering. however for bird wyverns the finger/claw is clearly visible This is most apparent in Qurupeco and Malfestio who despite being way more bird like have very obvious wing fingers/claws

Larinoth seem to only exist on the Jurassic frontier due to lack of predators compared to the mainland. Sauropods may just be unsuited for the mh world due to lack of self defense plus how long they would need to reach adulthood

My biggest pet peeve with mh’s world is just how common every monster seems to be. I get it for things like Deviljho and Bazel but like does Glavenus really need to be in this many areas. He’d be way cooler if he was only found in the Jurassic frontier imo

Seregios fight if anything is fast and I love it, Seregios fight reminds me a lot of 2nd gen Narga. Now 2nd gen Narga is one of my all time favorite fights but I am not nearly a big a fan of modern Nargas fight. It’s not bad it just feels way to slow and easy to follow.

So it’s no wonder that the only flagship that exclusively lives in arid regions is my favorite. We still know little about Seregios' original territory but it was most likely a very rocky mountainous arid area deep in the everwood. Similar to the Windward Plains

Maybe has to do with how I grew up and have lived my whole life in a desert and thus was always surrounded by these kinds of animals. But any creature adapted to these lands are so interesting to me.

And it is also important to mention, while I love all animals and environments, I find them all fascinating. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a bias, any animal or living thing that is adapted to living in arid biomes like sandy deserts, shrublands, or savannas fascinate me much more.

I will admit, Seregios being able to fire the spines is a bit goofy, but Wilds has lowered the amount of scales fired which was a great touch. The horn as well is so cool, once again it works as a defense and intimidation display while not getting in the way of the design COUGH COUGH COUGH

Seregios' design perfectly reflects the fast and zippy nature of him, where Rathalos gives me large eagle vibes, Seregios gives me the vibes of a kestrel. And there really isn’t any other flying wyvern like this, honestly Yian Garuga is the only other monster that I see this in

Seregios just has such a unique hunting style unlike anything else, relying on kicks and grabbing with the talons rather than biting or elemental attacks. Also helps that the kicks are inspired by secretary birds which are one of my favorite animals

Now on the surface his design seems pretty basic. Just another flying wyvern but with a lot of spines. But the more you look the more you realize who great it is. I think the main thing to note is the feet. The zygodactyl feet was one of the best subtle design choices they could have made

Soon he went from my top 20 to top 10 to top 5 to eventually overtaking Astalos and becoming my new favorite. However it wasn’t really definitive, that was until Wilds was announced.

Eventually my favorite monster was a three way tie, between Astalos, Espinas, and Malzeno. Astalos was the specific monster in GU that flipped the switch in my brain that made me fall in love with MH. And Epsinas and Malzeno I thought were excellently designed monsters in every regard.

It went from Kecha Wacha to Paolumu to even Xeno’jiiva but it eventually settled on an unexpected twist that being Valstrax. And yeah for most of my early years of being an mh fan I had the enemy of most of the ecology side as my favorite monster

Wait I just had a thought. What if the reason Pukei barely resembles the other bird Wyverns is because they’re mimicking true flying Wyverns as a defense against predators. This could also be the reason for the similarities between Yian Kut-Ku and Rathalos just to a lesser extent
