Incredible reporting by Sprang and team. Under no circumstances should Powers still be actively coaching this team. It’s clear ASU is not going to take action. @thenchc.bsky.social needs to step in, and at a minimum, suspend Powers during the investigation. Protect the players.

I said it previously, but what makes this Omaha Hockey season so tough is that this program has consistently found ways to outperform expectations. They haven't this year. They aren't far off, which makes the losses harder. On the plus side, this is a young team. They just gotta keep going.

This comes from a place of empathy, not critique. Omaha Hockey is in a tough place. The margins in the NCAA are tiny, and while hockey can feel unfair, it still rewards teams that take care of the details. Until that happens consistently, the results won’t turn. When it does, they will.

UMD’s first goal on Saturday was a great example of making reads within a system. The F1 reads the WMU defender is on his backhand and forces the play up the weakside. F2 and F3 take away all other options. Ideally, this puck goes high off the glass, but the pressure eliminates the time to think.

Omaha’s biggest challenge has been consistency. They will be a menace once they start to consistently play to their identity. Consistency is hard, especially given the number of new players and the strength of schedule. But, long-term success depends on consistently playing to their identity.

Mike's model is in a bad spot due to a lack of data and that's understandable. While there isn't much data between USports and NCAA, there quite a bit between USports and other leagues (ECHL, AHL). Personally, I think this Omaha team will be a top 25 team and will push for a spot in the NCAAs.
