Figured out after someone else asked if it was possible: If you draw in black and white with a two-tone brush, duplicate the layer, then apply "brightness to opacity" to the top layer, you get line and fill layers to colour as you see fit. Here's a few minutes work with some default CSP brushes:

Since it's still #tdov in some places: Hi, I'm Sean, a trans game dev making trans games! This seems as good a time as any to mention that Eleanor from Northanger Abbey is a trans woman, I'm never sure how to make *that* visible without being heavy handed since it's not the focus of her story.

I've been slowly improving the Northanger Sprites in advance of an eventual Steam release, this is probably the one I was least happy with and it's definitely improved! Never think it's too late to improve your art, I was in my late 30s when I drew the first lot and am still learning in my 40s.

First game dev influence: The Gabriel Knight dark supernatural point and click mystery games. 1st was moody but racist. The Sad MLM Werewolves plot of the 2nd BLEW MY MIND in the 90s. When the Davinci Code came out I ranted that GK 3 already did that plot better smarter and with vampires.
