Okay. I need a boost here. Looking for artists. We're talking about some potential comic book style art and/or concept art for the #iHunt film. We're privately funding development, so budget isn't Hollywood. I want queer and/or nonwhite artists. I want cool styles. Links? Tags? Self-promo?

I think setting the movie on a more cheesy version of Earth really helped with that tbh. But because of that I'm still not convinced they'll fit well once they're shoehorned into the MCU proper.

Agreed. Nevertheless, it was the first FF movie I've actually enjoyed *at all* - I honestly thought it was impossible for FF to work in live action, so it came as a pleasant surprise.

Mile by mile they come. Past the ruins and up to the walls, like a ruinous tide they come. To cut the villages down. Led by Mwindaji they come. Screaming bronze swords in living form. No lights and no sound, don’t want to be found To keep from being cut down” - Khem children’s rhyme #Ha-Nahn
mage of Mwindaji, a named Remnant (a type of living weapon in Ha-Nahn that is formed when a weapon absorbs so much hatred and malice from its owner that it tries to keep on fighting even after that person dies) stalking forward through an eerie night with a full moon. She wears a purple torn and tattered garment with great blades for her arms and a masked, eyeless face. She leads a small troop of others behind her as though prepared to destroy an unsuspecting village. Her body is full of indications of damage from previous battles and yet she still exists.

Agreed, "narrative driven" may not make much sense as terminology. Might be more accurate to call it "narrative driving", or "narrative compelling" because it is designed with intent to create story. Eg. rolls force more complex outcomes that in other games would be simple successes or failures.

Yesterday I searched google to find out what business week we were in. The AI overview confidently told me it is business week 34. The actual search results confirmed it is business week 35. If genAI can't get such a simple request right, you cannot rely on it for something as complex as advice.

Of course there are ways to spend massively more money, like in any hobby. But that is into the area of luxury goods, which is a personal choice, not a requirement. The minimum assets required are few, and unbeatable in value.

Spilled Ale Studios @spilledale.com · 10/08/2025
In particular it is important to consider the amount of entertainment value you can get out of the rpg you've just purchased, which is theoretically infinite.

Spilled Ale Studios @spilledale.com · 10/08/2025
Not going to put the post that inspired this on blast, but ttrpgs have an astoundingly cheap entry price compared to most hobby/entertainment activities, actually! Yes, even D&D, though there are many that are far cheaper still.

WotC literally just put up for preorder at $60 a *288* page book, plus it doesn't come with a bundled PDF and on top of that I don't trust WotC to keep AI-generated art out of their books. $60 for a 400 page book is a steal, especially at the production values of Draw Steel.

Spilled Ale Studios @spilledale.com · 01/08/2025
Actually, no, that's worth correcting. The +$10 supplement is for the dndbeyond version. Which is arguably a fairer reason to charge a supplement than bundling a pdf.
020
Spilled Ale Studios @spilledale.com · 31/07/2025
The fact you also get the pdf included in the price of the print is also not nothing and far from an industry norm. WotC charge a $10 supplement if you want that.

Feeling very irate today. Screw the UK government for their invasive and ultimately pointless age verification law. And screw Collective Shout and payment processors for morality policing content and damaging livelihoods in the process.

As for a BBEG's fortress, they're probably *not* the BBEG (at least openly) during its construction - no point revealing the threat they pose until their impenetrable defenses are ready to protect them from pesky heroes!

Would you know a dungeon under construction when you saw it? They're typically what remains of ancient temples, military facilities, prisons, etc. Modern equivalents of same may become dungeons by next millennia.

I can probably enjoy almost any dice mechanic as long as the game really sells me on why it works the way it does. Especially if one or more of those dice are unique to the game!

@loottavern.bsky.social I'm wondering how you think Water Whip from Heliana's Guide should interact with Spell Sniper - it qualifies for the range increase because of the attack roll. RAW, it probably affects the range to the water. Feels like it should increase the range of the attack though!

You won't hear any arguments from me, it was a really mixed bag. But what was good was very good, and what was good tended to be character performances, like you said. I loved the shows takes on both Nygma and Cobblepot.

Spilled Ale Studios @spilledale.com · 27/05/2025
Frank Gorshin was truly a spectacular Riddler. Personally, I also really liked Cory Michael Smith's take on Nygma in Gotham, and I think that could be said to be a compromise between grit and goof.

Maybe they're siblings or ex-lovers and the Nightmare King's identity got decided for them when the other party in this dyad claimed Reverie, and this left them carrying a deep grudge.
010
Spilled Ale Studios @spilledale.com · 18/05/2025
The Nightmare King wants their warlock to get close enough to the Lord of Reverie, their "good dream" mirror and rival, to corrupt their dreams, turning *them* into the new Nightmare King, allowing the current King to claim Reverie.

Hm, for me it'd have to be one that hasn't been rereleased on a later platform. So probably Guardian's Crusade!
Screenshot of a turn-based fight sequence from the ps1 game Guardian's Crusade: in the foreground, the protagonist "Knight" and weird pink shapechanging creature "Baby" face off against two monsters in the backgrounds: a treant and a giant frog (which is currently selected as the target of an attack, and its name is on screen: "Fatal Frog"). The fight appears to take place in some sort of swampy environment filled with tree stumps. Knight has 129/145 hit points and 49/49 power points. Baby has only 1/83 hit points.
