"But who, other than climatologists, academics, and people who could read, predicted the chaos to be wrought by the collapse of global supply chains, Trump’s refusal to leave the White House and the AI singularity?" Somehow funny and terrifying in equal measure.

“As we consider the Bayeux Embroidery we should remember the many killed by this French invasion. English men and women had their lands stolen. Many were put into serfdom by a new Norman governing class.”

Focusing on the media coverage seems like the sort of simplistic narrative that you often see in, well, in sections of the media. Surely any investigation should at the very least encompass Cambridge and the most prominent voices who pursued this on social media too? This didn’t happen in vacuum.

This is a dreadful development in our politics, which is bound to see dodgy & illegal lobbying now go unnoticed. And I say this as someone who, 20 years ago, was included in the register of MPs’ staff interests, when I worked for an MP. I never begrudged my inclusion on the register.

I’ve been in favour of LVT for a while now. To my layman understanding it seems better thought out and more realistic than the magic bullets that wealth tax campaigners propose. Sobering how dependent it would be on proper, long term strategic planning though. Fascinating thread and report here

An odd aspect of #remain was finding myself in agreement with Piers Morgan. On #bbclaurak today, Morgan makes the case for rejoin, then follows by saying the UK should rejoin "in a leading role, to reform the EU". He somehow combines being pro-EU with the delusional exceptionalism that got us here.
