An evening walk, with fish & chips, at Herne Bay this evening. Black-headed & Herring Gulls flying around as the tide receded. A couple of Robins were heard land side. A Turnstone was on a groyne as we retraced our steps. As darkness fell, a Redshank & Common Sandpiper heard from the harbour area

A very warm & sunny visit to Eureka Lake, Ashford this lunchtime. c14 Mallard, a couple of Coot & Moorhen & a Great Crested Grebe on the water. A few passerines heard in the trees. 3 Brown Rats (yt) on the lake edge. A couple of Ladybird & Shieldbug species on the nettles, as were Nursery Spiders

An overcast but warm visit to @kentwildlife.bsky.social Ashford Warren & Hoades Wood, Ashford. More birds calling today with Blackbird, Chiffchaff, Goldcrest & Wren all noted. A lifer in a Patoligolapjus agrestis, a Harvestman, & patch tick in an Ivy Bee. Fungi are now fruiting . #kentnature

The Stone Farms CP, Sittingbourne, wildlife survey this morning. Bird wise quiet. At least 4 Shrill & hopefully a Brown-banded Carder found. Personally, 3 Clouded Yellows & single Small Heath & Common Blue seen. Found my favourite Shieldbug, the Blue. Rebecca Levey showed us plenty of leafmines.

In warm autumnal midday sunshine, I visited the low lying plot at Eureka Park, Ashford. The only birds were Blue, Coal & Long-tailed Tits heard from the bushes. 2 Black-thighed Epeolus were a year-tick. The only butterfly seen was a Small Copper.

It was the September Milton Creek CP wildlife survey this morning. Starting under grey cloud, few insects about. A cormorant flew low over us, unusual in the park & a brief Kestrel. The sun came out, so did more insects. I saw a Small White & a couple of Common Blues. A Migrant Hawker also noted

A morning walk at Boyden Gate, Chislet. A strong warm south westerly was blowing. 4 House Martins struggled in the wind. A possible Firecrest in the village calling. Mostly Woodpigeon & corvids seen. At least 2 Wall, Red Admiral & Comma recorded, along with Migrant Hawkers, Willow Emerald & darters

A post work walk around the Triangle @kentwildlife.bsky.social Hothfield Common, Ashford. The bracken has started to brown. The only bird was a Goldcrest heard during my 15 minute circuit. Common Darters & high flying Hawkers overhead, a couple of Shieldbugs and various flies (to ID) seen.

A humid visit to Sharsted Wood, Doddington this lunchtime just before a shower. Most of the wood was quiet with occasional burst of bird song. Jay, Green Woodpecker, Great Tit, Chaffinch & Robin noted. A Speckled Wood was in a sunny glade. Most of the fungi had an nibbled. A few insects to identify

Visited the low lying/ marshy area of Eureka Park, Ashford yesterday . 2 Jays flew into the trees & a Blue Tit heard were the only birds recorded . A Wall on Common Fleabane was a surprise. Small Copper, Small White & Common Blue also noted. Migrant Hawker & Common Darter on the wing.

Under building grey clouds and high(ish) humidity, a fairly quiet visit to the heathland plot at Eureka Park, Ashford. Easily 200+ Ivy Bee’s flying low over the ground. The Gorse only held a Buff-tailed Bumblebee. 2 Magpie on the grass & 3 Jay flying into the boundary trees. A Robin & Blue Tit heard

An afternoon walk around Lynsted, Sittingbourne. Two Wheatear moving along a fence line, 3 Common Darters on another fence line (yt) & a Wall (yt) were the highlights. Found hops growing in a hedgerow & the first conkers of the year A couple of Skylark landed in a recently ploughed field.

An early visit to Canterbury so walked down the Stour from St Radigund’s to Barton Mill. In warm sunshine we disturbed a Grey Heron from the mid channel weeds. Mallard & Moorhen up and down the stretch. A Wagtail flew downstream but couldn’t confirm it was a Grey. Great & Blue Tit & Robin also noted

An autumnal feel to our walk @wtscotsocial.bsky.social Hucking Estate.this morning. The field with Sherpherd sculpture had thousands of Wild Carrot seed heads moving in the wind. Green & Great Spot, Jay & Nuthatch heard along with a couple of Robins. Small heath the most numerous butterfly.

This morning we walked part of the King Charles III coastal path at Rushenden, Isle of Sheppey. At least 175 BTG were along the shoreline on a rising tide, as were 50+ BHG on the mud. Few birds landside but 2 Swallows & at least 1 House Martin overhead. 8 Clouded Yellow & at least 3 Migrant Hawker

It was the August Stone Farm CP wildlife survey this morning. Swallows & House Martins over in the first hour. Later Red Kite & Buzzard. Shrill Carder the most numerous Bumblebee recorded. 7 sp of butterfly including at least 3 Clouded Yellows. 8 Wasp Spiders & 2 x 4-spotted Orbweaver seen.

Popped into a windswept Arc at Dungeness on the way back from Rye. A lot of gulls and duck hunkered down. At least 66 Coot bobbed on the water along with 3 GCG, 4 Mute Swan, Pochard & Gadwall. Lapwing & Starlings on the islands with a couple of Pied Wag & a Common Sand on the edge. GW Egret behind.

After this mornings rain, a sunny evening. With the sun now in the west, the birds were easier to see at Greatstone. 4 GBBG stood out amongst the BHG and fewer Herring Gulls. Ringed Plover, at least 80, were the most numerous wader followed by Oystercatchers further out towards the receding tide

Fewer birds of the mudflats at Greatstone this morning however 2 Wheatear on the shingle ridge were a year tick. At Tenterden, good to see the House Martin nests still active, although I only saw a maximum of 3 birds. Herring Gulls were using chimney pots as temporary roosts.

A brief explore of Lade Pits this afternoon, a site I have wanted to visit for quite a while. The lake on the Dungeness side had over 100 diving ducks, at least 50 being Pochard. The islands were full with guls and Cormorants (c80). A GW Egret stood out at the back of the lake + c20 Sandwich Terns

Another glorious walk towards Dungeness from Greatstone. Most of the birds were further out but one more stony section had 32 Ringed Plover & at least each of Sanderling & Dunlin. 13 Whimbrel flew overhead caling & headed towards Lade pits. The Sea Rocket & Little Robin (I assume native) in flower

My wife had singing coaching near Faversham so I had a couple of hours at Conyer. Arrived near high tide, Fowley island was pretty much submerged by the time I left. Around 80 Curlew flew to the sheep field while c40 Litte Egrets remained. Constant stream of Swallows flying east down the Swale

A lovely early (well 8am) walk along the beach at Greatstone. The tide was out, a lot further out than Leysdown but BHG, a few Common & Herring Gulls searched the mud. Ringed Plover were the main waders, although Sanderling,Dunlin & single Turnstone & Oystercatcher were also seen.

Arrived for our 7 day stay at Greatstone. Unfortunately the tide was receding but c50 BHG, 8+ HG, 2 Med & a Common Gull along with 13 Carrion Crows, 8+ Sandwich Terms & 4 Oystercatchers. Most birds were over by the Varne sailing building. The dunes were scorched although there were some flowers.

A very hot visit to @kentwildlife.bsky.social Cromers Wood. The only avian records were a Stock Dove (heard from the pond area) & a calling Woodpigeon. A couple of Whites,a Speckled Wood & a Common Blue, the butterflies seen. Also a Volucella pullucens & a possible Ashy Furrow bee. #kentnature

Today’s lunchtime wander was to the fishing lake at Eureka Park, Ashford. A Great Crested Grebe, Coot & 2 Moorhen on the water while 2 BHG flew around. A pair of Black-tailed Skimmers were in tandem around the flowering lakeside Water Mint. A probable Brown Hawker was too far for a definitive ID.

Spent just over an hour at a very hot @kentwildlife.bsky.social Queensdown Warren. No sign of my target, Silver-spotted Skipper but plenty of Browns, majority Meadow Brown, & Blues on the Majoram. Just back from the Glow-worm walk at Milton Creek CP, Sittingbourne.I saw 7 females glowing but one of the main areas in previous year recently burn in a grassland fire. The highlight though were at least 3-4 bats (probably Pipistrelles) flying around us at head height to within a couple of feet.

Whilst my wife was lake swimming, explored Leybourne Lakes CP. Highlights were a lifer in Lesser Emperor (the blue saddle very visible) & a Kingfisher. A Migrant Hawker also added to the year list. A couple of Blackcaps heard. 2 Emperor dragonflies & a Banded Demoiselle also seen.

A brief visit to @kentwildlife.bsky.social Oare Marshes in sunny but windy conditions. Arrived at high tide so the East Flood was quiet. 2 Little Ringed Plovers were the pick, Wagtails, mainly Pied, zipped about. On the West Flood, 21 Cattle Egret were amongst the livestock. Todays lunchtime wander was at Highsted Wood, Sittingbourne. Avian wise quiet apart from 2 Blue Tits. 3 species of butterfly seen although 4 Whites didn’t settle. The Spear Thistles are beginning to go to seed but the remaining flowers had Red-tailed BB & a Common Carder. First Earthball fungi seen.

It was a cloudy & cool visit to @kentwildlife.bsky.social Cromers Wood, there was even the briefest of showers. Only 2 Robin & a Green Woodpecker heard. 3 species of butterfly seen along with an Early Bumblebee. I couldn’t get good enough views of 2 moths, one might have been a Speckled Yellow.

A brief walk down Milton Creek whilst waiting for new tyres. The tide was out, 3 Lapwing on muddy creek sides are uncommon. Mallard swam/ walked up the creek. The lake is about a foot lower. A Little Grebe were identifiable in the morning light. A couple of Whites about, hoverflies on flowers to ID

A purple day @kentwildlife.bsky.social Ashford Warren & Hoades Wood as a Purple Hairstreak (lifer) landed on brambles beside me as I was scanning for possible Spotted Flycatchers that Merlin suggested. No Spot Fly’s but more than compensated. Possible Buzzard (fledgling?) constantly calling.

A brief wander through Cheney Wood, Rodmersham this afternoon. Only a Wren & Green Woodpecker definitely heard although Merlin suggested the constant seep seep call was a Spotted Flycatcher. Without a sighting it is only a possible. 2 Meadow Brown’s & a Brimstone also seen with a couple of Whites

A cooler & cloudy visit to the heathland plot at Eureka Park, Ashford today. A Coal Tit was calling as I arrived & apart from some House Sparrows calling the Gorse & 2 House Martins overhead, bird wise quiet. 3 Gatekeepers flew over the parched grass where 32 Cinnabar caterpillars fed on Ragwort

A fantastic rib trip out to the Ederson Lighthouse, Looe, Cornwall this morning. On the way out we stopped at 2 feeding frenzy’s with Gannets of varying ages + gulls & c20 Common Dolphins (to within a metre). Risso Dolphin & Shearwaters (most likely Manx) also seen. Just a lovely natural spectacle

Not been recording, as we are on holiday, but for a lifer (Goldenring Dragonfly) hanging from a bird feeder about a metre away I’ll make an exception. Near Looe, Cornwall. Next to get a Kent tick!
