The Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act is a framework for how to work together in a good way. Because, when we work together, the results are better for all British Columbians.

In that spirit, I witnessed Minister of Mining and Critical Minerals Jagrup Brar and Trekor Metals offer apologies for the harms experienced by the Tŝilhqot’in Nation in the past and commit to moving ahead in a better way.

In addition to supporting an overall settlement, the agreement creates space for land use planning and relationship repair with Tŝilhqot’in. It reflects a willingness among all parties to find common ground and build mutual respect.

I was in Kitimat as LNG Canada and five First Nations signed a major equity option agreement: the opportunity to take majority ownership of the potential Phase 2 LNG storage tank, up to $1B. This shows what’s possible when Nations are true partners in projects that grow B.C.’s and Canada’s economy.🇨🇦

On this, the Tŝilhqot’in Nation is working with B.C. and Canada to implement the trilateral coordination agreement, signed in 2025, that advances the Nation’s jurisdiction over child and family services.   This is one of many examples of the powerful work happening following the 2014 decision.

Since then, the B.C. government and the Tŝilhqot’in Nation have been jointly working to achieve the shared vision for the Tŝilhqot’in Nation’s eight pillars of reconciliation—one of which includes jurisdiction over children and family services.
