I just read Momo by @johncusack.bsky.social Yeah, that John Cusack. I went in completely cold and it’s excellent. Noe’s art is the perfect accompaniment to this wild alt history/conspiracy/film noir crazy story. Thrilled that it mentions they’re already working on a new book together. Recommended!

I was amazed that my daughter (8) can recognize similar artists. A new Babysitter’s Club GN came out with two artists (Raina Tegelmeier and Gale Gallican) and she commented on the different styles. It’s a skill you don’t pick up in film or prose.

Was just reading someone comment on how great Sandman is after reading lesser books for so many years. Like, capes are fun, but they’re usually not the best examples of the medium. It’s unfortunate that most people never experience the good stuff. The medium has so much potential

I think there’s a spectrum there between just a series of images and a full text book. Cerebus had long passages of text interspersed with a few images here and there. It stretches the definition of comics, but I think it can be useful to capture a different pacing. A hard sell to LCS’s

When people talk about ‘what would happen if a normal person got superpowers’, Concrete is the book they should read, not Watchmen or whatever. He uses his abilities (and handicaps) to get more out of life. And it shows the mundane, trivial, aspects of his new life. It’s such a wonderful book.

The once-outstanding Baltimore Sun has switched to AI slop political cartoons on its editorial page. They are as ghastly as you would imagine. The Sun is now owned by the CEO of the rightwing Sinclair TV Empire. He turned it MAGA. The paper lost 25% of its circulation this year.

Yep! It was in the Betis’ stadium and they beat Sevilla for the first time in something like a decade. It was insane in Sevilla for hours afterwards. That’s when I called up Kevin and said, “I get it! I get why you love this sport!”
