Your photos are bringing back the very happy 11 years I lived in the Borrowdale valley. Gorgeous photos

I didn't mean to rub your nose in it. It's just always weird when people are celebrating the weekend when I'm going into work. I hope today gows quickly and u dramatically and that your weekend comes around soon!

Weird you couldn't get a pair of 12mm needles! Looking back to when I started to knit I'm pretty sure I couldn't have managed a big and little needle. My dexterity grew the more practised I became. I think you'e underselling your skills. Just because you found it easy doesn't mean it's not skilled

I find crochet rhythmic and thus relaxing and sometimes therapeutic. But juggling 2 sticks and trying to keep track of all the sts on the needle and then you drop a st, don't see it for several rows and then have to either try and pick it uo with a crochet hook or rip back to that row - stressful!

That's tough. And no, a low mood does not help in picking up your crafting. It's meant to help your mood, but you have to be IN the mood in the first place! I do hope you come through those doldrums very soon and find a bit of brightness

I don't see how it's quicker than knitting on a pair of 12mm needles? The little needle row wouldnt be as tall? And experienced knitters would find it easier than inexperienced beginners to jab the big needle into the little needle sts. Personally think it's quite an advanced technique 🤷‍♀️

sparklyfellelf.bsky.social @sparklyfellelf.bsky.social · 21h
I have a pair of 12mm knitting needles (and ine in every size up to 12mm, except 11mm - don't think they make those?). So I knew what kind of size you meant with tye bug needle. But still can't fathom how it is easy to stick a 12mm needle through a st on a 4mm or 5mm needle! Sounds v diff to me!

sparklyfellelf.bsky.social @sparklyfellelf.bsky.social · 21h
I don't think they can help it anymore than I can being a chronic underachiever. Part DNA, part upbringing or experience at school. But I don't know any in real life (like attracts like 🤣) and that was well, nice. Seeing the insane complexities people get up to with v little experience is a downer

sparklyfellelf.bsky.social @sparklyfellelf.bsky.social · 21h
Doesn't the row with the smaller needle shrink in though? And not really understanding how it is easier than two big needles. One big and one small sounds tricky to handle. Getting the big needle into the stitches on the little needle sounds an absolute nightmare. Like I say, a specific technique

I'm not sure they are as show-offy as you say, but I do think they are probably high achievers who have to master things to the highest level. The thing is, before social media I wasn't confronted with them. I only ever met other knitters who's epitome was a bit of cablinng which we all cooed at

sparklyfellelf.bsky.social @sparklyfellelf.bsky.social · 22h
Oddpins? And what is a "real" knitter anyway. If you ended up with a garment then you are a knitter. And even if you didn't finish it, then you still knitted some components. I haven't knitted anything other than ribbed bands for crochet hats for at least 10 yrs. Too many sts, dropped st risk...

It's actually not about being good - the only technical bits are increases and decreases for the shaping. It's about having tge stamina to knit 4 large pieces and then have the patience to sew them together. I only had that as a teen and to make a point to the stupid, bullying PE teachers

Oh, that was me. When I looked up the perfumes I thought it said that was her name! Looked again and she's Sarah McCartney and company is 4160 Tuesdays. She may as well resign herself to calling the company Sarah Tuesday as who can remember a number? Or just use her actual name

I learnt to knit when I was 7. By 14 I was knitting jumpers as a form of protest when made to play goalkeeper in hockey. So, a pretty competent knitter. Or so I thought... Turns out there people who learnt a mere 2 years ago who are doing incredibly complex, tricky things. I hate the Internet

I've never heard of Sarah Tuesday and her perfumes but they sound very much up my street, if beyond my budget. Like many of the posters in this thread I have problems with scents smelling ridiculously sweet on me, even when they smell delicious on others. I've found Bath House good and affordable

AND... four lovely, girls of about 18 were using an actual camera. A digital one, which even I put away about 8/9 years ago. Apparently it's the trend, as they are better and "more real" than phone cameras. Wait until they discover real old school film cameras...

It's actually a teeny tiny 25g ball! 175m. Cost me a cup of coffee but way more lasting pleasure. Am going to use it held together with a similar colour of floofy alpaca silk to give it more body and more fluffy halo. Going to make a little neck thingummy (hours of happy idea/pattern searching!)
A 25g ball of Alva filcolana 100% alpaca yarn in a rich, fiery, burnt orangey red. It's very soft and smooshy

Went to the big city today (Lancaster) and by 'eck the young people are so sleek and polished. Felt 197 and a bag lady in comparison (and I was wearing make-up and had a Grown Up Lady Bag (GULB))

Found it online! It's Miniml. £5.40 a kilo. So an average 300ml bottle is... umm, yes, maths... cheaper. Think conditioner is the same price

Great theory! I now buy generic shampoo and conditioner from a big vat that you pump into yoir own bottles. It's vegan/cruelty free and just for... hair. I've found it it makes my hair soft, silky and v manageable. And its v cheap!

sparklyfellelf.bsky.social @sparklyfellelf.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
I use it v occasionally, Boots own brand. Wouldn't be able to compare with 80s Batiste. But you'd imagine it had improved. I've also washed my hair in washing up liquid in desparation. It was fine. Didn't strip it as i thought it would and was soft. Needed conditioner for the frizz, like shampoo

sparklyfellelf.bsky.social @sparklyfellelf.bsky.social · 14/10/2026
If you look at the ingredients lists on shampoo and shower gel... Almost identical. It's why all in one gels can and do exist. Shampoo is made for your scalp, which is skin. There may be added silicones to smooth hair, but the difference is mainly marketing
